Grandfather Twilight (Paperstar Book)

When I bought this book several years ago, it was so breathtakingly beautiful that I ordered a copy for each household of grands. Recently saw this used copy on sale and got it to live at Meemaw's house. I expected it might have some wear or a library label, but this is an entirely different printing. The book is a different size and shape, and lacks the quality of the original. Not at all the seller's fault--it arrived timely and as described. Just be aware that there are some editions out there that are treasures and some that are just copies.

This is a terrific book with a fantastic set of vocabulary and illustrations. I use it with my ELLs. They draw and watercolor focusing on the night and write about it. Really incredible literary and visual storytelling! Should be part of ever elementary teacher’s library.

There are few books with which I'm more familiar. I bought and read it to my daughters (over and over again) as a bedtime story when they were very young, and now, 35 years later, I've had the joy of getting it again for my first granddaughter. It is just as I remember. Barbara Berger's illustrations are beyond my ability to describe. Here's my best attempt. When we see something beautiful , whether a field of Calla Lillies, a glorious sunset or a gorgeous firework, we often let out an involuntary "Aaahhh." You may find yourself doing that as you look at Ms. Berger's amazing illustrations in Grandfather Twilight. As if they arrived from a dream and were placed onto paper.

Loved this book since day 1. The story is still magical to me at 69 yrs old. Bought this for my granddaughter last month. I’d planned to give her the copy her daddy had as a child but it was lost in a fire a few months ago. She won’t know the difference, but it tugged at my heart wanting her to hold & touch the same pages her daddy did. Precious story & my preference over Goodnight Moon.

I still have my original copy of this book from childhood. Lately I've been adding it to kids birthday and baby gifts. It's such a lovely story, easy to read at bedtime and gorgeous illustrations. A classic for every family library.

The illustrations in this book are a marvel of gentle color. The text is minimal and basically involves a nighttime routine for Grandfather Twilight who releases the moon each night. My kids (girl & boy) loved this story when they were little and I'm keeping my copy in the hopes of one day reading it to my grandchildren, if I have any!

My wife had this book growing up and it was given to us to read our son. It has become a nightly tradition that we read him the story before he falls asleep. My daughter got to the original, she tore out several pages and colored on several pages. Obviously my son was very upset over the issue and we had to replace it. This book is perfect if you were trying to get a small child to go to sleep and can be read in a manner that is soft and soothing. Very happy to see Amazon had it.

Wonderful book. Has become the 'go to' read for the little one I gifted it to.

B. Helen Berger's books have been greatly enjoyed by my granddaughters. This book has been read at least 20 times if not more; a favorite bedtime book, one granddaughter would act out the taking of the pearl and holding it in her hand. A serenity and quiet came over the children as I read it in a hushed voice.

Used to be my favourite book in primary school! I bought it now as an adult because I remember loving the illustrations so much as a child.... and I still do! Can't quite wrap it up to give to my niece just yet.... got to look through the watercolour pictures one last time...

The book arrived in brilliant condition.The story is simple, yet beautiful. The illustrations are charming.This book is without doubt a keeper for generations.
