Stackpole Books Knitted Beanies and Slouchy Hats

Versatile knitted beanie book. Good projects/ instructions.

Nice photos of finished hat products and comes with photos / directions of the various types of knitting stitches which are handy for those of us that have forgotten how to do some of the stitches. For myself, one stitch was throwing me off (kfb) and I had to see a video online. I do wish that the colors used for knitting the stitch examples were a pastel shade as it is easier to see the process.- The one down feature is that the yarn used for the main photo on the cover is no longer available. I was able to find a beautiful muli-colored yarn that would produce the same size stitch that I needed.Tip - I am pleased that I had my row counter (I used to just write on paper) to click off the rows and also that I had my rubber tips for the ends of the circular needle.

I bought this book because it had a pattern I needed. I am amazed at all the beautiful hats. I would love to make every one of them.

I love this book. I looked through several and this was the only one where I could say that I'd actually make several of the hats in the book. It also has beautiful photography throughout. One of the features I love the most is the "Visual Index" - you don't need to know the name of the pattern, a picture of each hat is shown along with its page number.If you are on Ravelry and you looked up the patterns in this book, note that Ravelry is missing quite a few of the patterns. They show 15 (as of the date I am writing this review) but the book actually contains 31 patterns.

I found this book at my local public library which offers just a handful of knitting books; to my great fortune, this was one of them. I checked it out (3 times!) and finally decided I needed a copy of my own because I want to knit ALL the cute and clever hats in this book. Diane Serviss has included patterns for easy to knit and fun to wear hats that run the gamut from classic to imaginative and everything in between. And to top it off, all the patterns are designed for quick knitting using medium/worsted weight or bulky/chunky yarns! If you love knitting and wearing hats, this is a book you NEED in your library.

Don't get me wrong, this is a wonderful book. I've already started on one of the hats and the instructions are very clear. There are a number of unique designs. My only reason for dropping a star is the fact that almost a third of the book is knitting instructions (which are among the best I've ever seen with lots of useful illustrations). I seriously doubt that absolute novice knitters would be trying hats. If so, then maybe that much space needed to be devoted to basics. I would really rather have seen more hate patterns.

I've been knitting for more than 15 years and find this to be the best book I have found. I have been disappointed so many times but the instructions here are clear, easy to follow and the patterns are lovely. I am excited to find patterns I've wanted for some time and finally have the tools to make them.

Plenty of color photos to inspire even advanced, seasoned knitters. The patterns and instructions are clear and easily understood for new knitters. I’ll probably make all of these cute stylish hats except one. No, I won’t say which one. Love this book.

Really nice patterns, only drawback is wool thickness required, not something you might expect to find in your stash.

Bought this a while ago and have made a couple of hats. The patterns were easy to follow and turned out well.
