Marius Petipa s exotic ballet La Bayadere is set in legendary and mysterious India. It is a story of love, death and vengeful judgement. Yuri Grigorovich presents a sumptuous recreation of Petipa s choreography. Recreated specifically for the Bolshoi by French choreographer Pierre Lacotte, Marco Spada, or the Bandit s Daughter, is a grandiose and unique ballet both on a technical and dramatic level: it includes complex choreography, five lead roles created for five principals, and several changes in scenery. With Tchaikovsky s famous, lyrical score, Swan Lake depicts the tragic love between Princess Odette and Prince Siegfried, and is performed to perfection by the unparalleled virtuosity of Russia s great Bolshoi Ballet. A modern and visionary work, The Golden Age, set to music by Shostakovich, was created in 1930. Its central theme was the highly moralized battle and triumph of the proletariat against the decadent bourgeoisie, set in Europe during the roaring twenties. All performances were recorded in high definition at the State Academic Bolshoi Ballet of Moscow.

Terrific value
This is a terrific set of ballets beautifully shot in HD and surround sound and perfectly reproduced on the Blu-Ray set. Swan Lake is an absolute classic and among the better performances available at any price on disk. Marco Spada and The Golden Age were both new to me. Both are really enjoyable to watch with simple but clear storylines and all the more enjoyable when watched a second time a couple of weeks after first viewing. The Bolshoi version of La Bayadere was beautifully danced but is the original two act version which rather leaves the story unfinished: The Royal Ballet recording with Carlos Acosta is a full three act version and is the version I will watch in the future even though the Corps of the Bolshoi give a more synchronised showing than that of the RB in these performances.

Excellent dancing but not my favourite version of Swan Lake
The dancing and music up to the usual excellent standard of the Bolshoi. The one disappointment was the degree to which the story of swan lake had been changed from the traditional.

Además de que se trata del Bolshoi, los ángulos de las tomas permiten apreciar la danza (frencuentemente, se puede ver el cuerpo completo de los bailarines, las figuras de las coreografías de grupo, hay tomas centradas y superiores). No he conocido una colección mejor filmada que esta. Desearía poder verla con calidad 4K u 8K.El repertorio es interesante: Una pieza muy conocida (Lago de los cisnes); otra menos conocida (La Bayadera); un ballet francés (Marco Spada), en el que hace muchos años destacó Rudolf Nureyev; y un ballet del periodo soviético (La Edad de Oro)

"Great Ballets from Bolshoi"is a very good product .Bolshoi ballet performance are stunning. I have already had "Swan Lake" blue ray DVD, one of the four blue ray DVDs the Bolshoi vol. 2 collection had .It worth the money.

Sehr schöne, sanft modernisierte Version, von La Bayadère und Schwanensee, ergänzt durch zwei Ballette, die im Westen kaum aufgeführt werden. Sehenswert!
