Very effective watering system for indoor plants! My outdoor experiments were less successful. I found it helpful to soak the wick like a sponge before using.

I like this for my self watering plants. Easy to use.

I followed the directions, and it worked like a charm! I was gone 13 days. When I returned, my plant was alive and well!

This is fairly easy to use and comes with some helpful instructions on how to control the flow and wicking of water. The price isn't bad compared to some more expensive watering systems that might not do any better.I used this for 5 small plants in quart or smaller containers while we were away for a couple of weeks. Came back and my plants were still alive.I tested it ahead of leaving and found it a bit difficult to really adjust the water flow and it wicked more water out of my gallon container than my plants needed. They say to place the water lower or tie knots in the rope to slow down the flow. I tied 10 tight knots in each rope to slow it, which worked a little bit, but was still over watering and leaving puddles in the saucers under the plants. You'll want to test it out days before leaving.Finally I found a large roasting pan to put my plants in to prevent water overflowing onto the floor and there was a big puddle in the bottom.My plants were overly damp the whole time, but at least they weren't wilted or dead when I returned. The rope had green algae growing on it after 10 days, but it did the job of keeping my plants from dying.This isn't a perfect system for watering, but it did better than a more expensive watering system I tried, so I'm giving it a pretty good rating for being inexpensive and maintaining my plants while I was away.

We now have a collection of the self-watering pots, all of which depend on pieces of pretty white cord to transport water from the clear bottom bowl up to the soil in the pots. Darn if that cord isn't bidirectional, and some of the pots have dirt staining the cord. How Rude! This cod replaces the old with new pretty white again; it avoids the sin of folks having to look at hints of the dirt (gasp!) that the plants live in. /s/The cord works perfectly in our pots, and would work just as well in yours given the opportunity. A length stuffed up through a drain hole into the soil, other end sitting a water-filled bowl underneath, and your plants will love you. We still have to remember to put water in the bowls once in a while, but that's weeks rather than days as it would be with direct watering. As age marches on and I find my attention span becomes closer to that of a beagle puppy, I find that helpful aides like this help a lot.

Love that I can take the rope cut it, easy to use to put in some of my little pots so that can bottom water. You can make them whatever size you need and they work well.

It is a very flexible polypropylene covered wick. The water is absorbed by the exposed wick at one end, travels inside the covering and drips out of the exposed inner wick at the other; it does not come out of the length, although the length does become slightly damp. I did not need to, but I suspect you could loop the damp cord around the base of the plant. If you need a greater discharge, expose a longer length of wick at the end(s) or use a second length of cord. If you need a lesser discharge, shorten the length of exposed wick or tie a knot in the cord !The reservoir container can be below the level of the receiving pot but not by much. Mine is level with the top of a 3" deep plant pot and I have had no problems with it drawing water from the bottom of the reservoir to the top of the plant-pot. It will draw water up as well as across but probably not up great distances. You cannot daisy-chain these, one cord for each plant pot. A great idea to pre-soak each length before use and make a small peg hoop with wire to stop it falling out of the target pot.Certainly you would need to play with this for a day or two to get the amounts etc correct and ensure the plant pots can drain any surplus, but these are so cheap and simple in operation they simply cannot be faulted

Did the job for a week. Came back to a thriving money plant. Placed the water container slightly higher than the plant. A few leaves had fallen or turned crispy, not sure why, but overall plant grew and is luscious. Wondering if the plant actually prefers a slow constant watering like this or if to go back to the watering by hand. Didn’t seem to work as well in the garden but may need to adjust that technique or use more/larger water containers there.

I used 20 liter pots with holes in them, each above a container with water. 4 pieces of string per pot was enough to keep optimal watering conditions. I just water in the container. Excelent.
