Come Away My Beloved - original Edition

I stumbled upon the original version of this book, perhaps 10 years ago. The devotions are written in a form as God speaking to you, His beloved child. My copy was so worn out, I bought another a few years back. Then, when Amazon notified me of this pocket- size version I was so excited! I can carry it in my purse, or with my Bible in it's case. Another plus of this version is the 'thees and thous' have been updated to eliminate them completely. I am a good reader, so I would automatically just change them in my mind as I read, but this is even nicer and makes for smoother reading.To me, this book is a vehicle to jump start my prayers, and also just to meditate on it's truths. Here is a few lines of an example:The title is "The Burden Bearer" The verse is Deut. 8:16. "He might test you, to do you good in the end.""My child, do not share your burdens with all who come to you professing concern. I, Myself, am the great burden-bearer. You need not look to another. I will lead you and guide you in wisdom from above. All things will be as I plan them, if you allow Me the freedom to shape circumstances and lead you to the right decisions. I am merciful and kind. I love you beyond measure. I intend to do you good; and I will bring to you those who can truly help, if you leave all in My hands."Every devotion is rich in scriptural truths and will bring scripture to your mind as you read. I can't reccommend this book enough! Most of these devotions were written back in the 60's and 70's, and I would love to see a whole new generation latch onto these writings and grow in their faith with them!Frances J. Roberts has written 4 other devotionals that are just as rich in this same vein. I am hoping that they too will be published in pocket-size form also. All my copies of his writings are getting pretty worn!

This book brings a fresh revelation of God's heart to the reader every time they read it. Great in depth inspiration.

Excellent material. However, common questions can arise, like:1. Are these attempted additions to the Bible? Actually, they sample fulfillment of Jesus saying He would lead us. If the Bible were a DVD, then the Spirit shines the laser accenting a precise part -- without adding chapters -- simply unpacking the disc.2. Does the author claim to be Jesus? Prophets (Biblical or modern) never say they are the actual Jesus; but they act as stained glass that the Christ light can arrives through.3. Why don’t the messages cover all the teachings in the Gospel? This peculiar misunderstanding assumes God must completely replicate doctrine, rather than just being with and loving the person, like Father to child.4. If Christ customizes his speaking, then does each person color the messages? Any light from Christ will arrive through us like a uniquely, artistically, tinted window for God’s glory. Some windows are brighter, some are darker; so some prophets emphasize the cross and others the resurrection. We need both.5. Do all these words apply to me? No, they were given to a particular person, with a particular personality type, in a particular season. Some parts will apply and others won’t. Read (as with anything) listening for what the Spirit encourages for us at the time.6. Do these words have authority over me because they are in first-person? No. Each person has a unique, unrepeatable private encrypted line with God. I have used this devotional for several years. I've read through it at least three times. Each day brings new insight. Ms. Roberts brings a freshness to each writing that I've had a hard time finding in other writers. With each day, I find new insights that are refreshing and encouraging. I would recommend this to any age level. I have bought over 70 copies to hand out to friends.... both in English and Spanish. I chose this rating for the unique way that Ms. Roberts is able to speak to a large age range. As for any dislikes.... none. I just finished it for the third time. I plan to start all over. I chose a five star rating because it is one of the few books that I have wanted to read over and over again. It remains "fresh".

Makes a good gift

I don't even know how many of these little books I have purchased and given away. I am not one for devotionals but this is somehow different. In it's pages can be found encouragement, correction, and even ideas to ponder. It's written as if it is God speaking to you. Normally that would not be my cup of tea but it works for this book. Have I read every single page? No, despite having had it for many many years, it's just not that kind of devotional. There are a handful of writings in it that strike a note with me and those writings are where I have camped.

Excellent book of devotional thoughts that truly inspire, challenge and encourage you. Some of the passages bring conviction to your heart and soul. Others warm your heart and you gain a deep appreciation of God's love for each individual. Many are referencing Biblical passages you might never have related to the thoughtful insights developed to cause you to pause and meditate further.Each passage can be read as a stand alone, jumping around reading out of order is just as meaningful as reading cover to cover, you're sure to find favorites that you'll want to read over and over again.

This book is timeless. I have read it many times. Second only to my Bible this book is a treasure to have.

I'm deeply touched by the thoughts in this book...draws me so much nearer to God and reveals his loving way and ho He sees us!

I based my rating on the simple fact that this is a Phenomenal book.I would recommend this book to every believer who wants to hear the Voice of God - as this is not a book to read - but one that you are stirred to meditate upon when prompted by the Holy Spirit.Be prepared to be encouraged, uplifted, rebuked, reproved as you are moved to read the inspired words within the pages of this book.

Beautifully written

I have bought at least 25 copies of this book over the past few years as I keep giving it away to friends. It is the most beautiful book - truly comforting, scriptural and inspired. My favourite book apart from the Bible.
