YOUSHARES Zoom H1n Handy Recorder Windshield with Foam Cover - Pop Shield for Zoom H1 Portable Digital Recorder, Microphone Wind Screen Muff Indoor/Outdoor

I have had a Zoom H1 for years and had some great results with it indoors but now want for have a shot at recording ambient sounds in the field, as it were. If you are doing any sound recording outside with a microphone, hand held, on a stand or built in to a camera - there is always the problem of wind noise ruining the recording. A 'pop filter' and a 'wind muff' are essential items and this is the solution is the best solution to the problem. This is a great purchase at an affordable price - highly recommended.

This review is factual and objective with no personal opinion unless where stated. I have poor hand - eye coordination and limited articulation in my fingers, and I found this product really easy to pull over the Zoom H1n's cradle around the microphones. The opening diameter for this product is very large and covers the Zooms recording dial (and the input and output 3.5 mm sockets) and in addition, the draw cord is very strong and has a locking clip on it to keep it secure. This means that the Zooms recording dial has no elastic pressing down on it and accidentally alter your recording level. Personal opinion: I have done wind test recordings with this product and analysed them in Audacity, and found this product performed extremely well. The whole purpose of foam 'Pop shields' and 'Dead Cat' wind shields is to create a pocket of 'still' (unmoving) air are around the microphones. This can only be achieved if there is a very good seal between the wind shield and the body of the recorder. This product has a non-slip leatherette-type material that holds the draw cord and adheres to the recorders body very effectively. I own several digital recorders and have found that this product fits and performs extremely well with them all. REMEMBER - furry wind muffs or 'Dead Cats' only REDUCE wind noise and not ELIMINATE it. Would recommend this product. ps - Both products are machine washable on a synthetic setting. Both are also OK with fabric conditioner. Allow to dry thoroughly before attaching to the Zoom H1n.

Impressive mic. I am surprised how good and clean audio I could record with it. Very small, batteries lasts forever it seems. Easy to use, I just don't like the power button, not really intuitive and you can turn it of by mistake. Works well with cameras, it's just annoying to set up (on camera end).

I ordered the Zoom WSU-1 and this one for testing as was unsure if the zoom one was three times better (its nearly three times the price!) suffice to say I returned the zoom version. It is designed for all of their recorders so would probably fit the H4 well but is far too big for the h1n. It completely covers the screen and if you push it up it is baggy and rubs on the h1n case - not right! I’ve tested both furry windscreens and they seem to perform pretty equally from what I can tell, the zoom is slightly better quality and has a liner but the fur looks almost identical. As an added bonus I get a spare foam shield with it but really I was after the furry shield. So all in all a pleasant surprise of quality and function at a bargain price!

Apart from the free link to the software which I abandoned, the function of this little recorder is excellent. Easy to set up and we have been amazed at the clarity of the recordings outside and inside. We bought one for someone else as a gift and they have found it invaluable for recording their own music ,in a band, that they are working on, and being able to take it home to listen to and work on. The quality is sufficient for them and it is so easy to just switch on for a few minutes. Used with a power pack, it lasts for hours. I have recorded birds in the garden, leaving it running for hours with a 32GB card and not had to disturb them constantly. You can pick up clear sound from 50 metres away, but also from a couple of feet. Now I just need a brain transplant or chip to identify the bird song!

Excellent item, great quality and easy to fit. It works very well in windy conditions.

Used with a Zoom H1N microphone outdoors, the furry windshield muffler works very well, even quite noticeable wind I still got decent audio recordings. I did try the foam pop filter and it does a good job, but for out in the field I recommend the furry "dead cat" one. More than worth the asking price. Very recommended.

Furry or foamy, these both give excellent protection to the integral mics. Foamy softens ambient and breathing noise, and the furry helps with wind noise. Both fit well and give a ‘hairdo’ appearance to the recorder!

Los he recibido hoy y he hecho ya un par de pruebas, a priori, muy satisfactorias. El 'deadcat' atenúa bastante el sonido (lógico, por otro lado) y, aunque elimine el ruído del viento, no quiere decir que vayamos a poder usar el micro en mitad de un huracán. Hace lo suyo, que es permitir la grabación en exteriores. Además no es tan fácil de poner como la espuma, cuesta un poco colocarla en el sitio y luego hay que ajustar la goma. La espuma, recién sacada del paquete tenía arrugas y estaba algo fea, pero tras un par de horas está como nueva. De sonido muy bien. En mi opinión, la espuma le confiere a los micros esa pátina de sonido profesional tan propia de aquellos que cuidan su captación. No exime esto de postproducir el sonido, evidentemente, pero en el momento de hacerlo estaremos ante un mejor punto de partida. Y poco más. Buen material y bien empaquetado, sin florituras. Y diría que no es caro, 15 € no deberían ser la ruina de nadie por algo tan necesario.

This deadcat works really well. It blocks the wind as it should, perfect for recording outside.

Absolutely recommended when you want to make recordings outdoors, even when there is no wind. It fits perfectly around the top of the Zoom H1N. Just make sure to tighten it with the elastic cord so that it is well sealed against wind from all directions. The only downside is that you can no longer access the volume control of the microphones once you have it installed on your Zoom H1N.

Le Zoom H1N est un excellent outil portable pour la prise de son. Les micros natifs enregistrent en stéréo, ce qui signifie que vous aurez des surprises dans la position de la voix dans le casque au montage. En revanche, il convient parfaitement pour les prises de son d'ambiance comme un moteur de voiture qui tourne et accélère par exemple. Relié à un micro cravate, c'est l'idéal. Je recommande.
