This is the magnetic connector I’ve been seeking!
My PC usage: I have been using this Knaive adapter on my Lenovo X1 Yoga ThinkPad (2nd generation) laptop each day for the past week. I frequently move around and have to unplug and re-plug in my laptop. I work on my PC 8-12 hrs per day (4-6 on the weekends) and my PC is often left plugged in overnight.Magnet Strength: I feel on this adaptor it is just right. It does not fall off when I move the cord around, or if I move the PC around. It does simply ‘snap’ into place when the magnet gets within 1-2 cm (about an inch) of the base.Key Selling Point: The best part of this gadget is that it serves as a safety-break when someone trips on your power cord, or if the PC power cord suddenly gets pulled or yanked. The magnet is strong, but it ‘breaks-away’ before any damage can occur to the USB-C charter port or cord.Fit: The base, the part that inserts into the USB-C port on the PC, fits snugly into my laptop. It does not slip out or wiggle around once fully inserted. Getting it out takes a little bit of force and is easier if you have a little length to your finger nails. This is because the base is very thin profile (does not stick out much). Once you get it out of the USB-C slot just a little, you get a better grip and the base comes out fairly easy. I have two USB-C ports on this, so I almost never remove the Knaive’s base. I can use the 2nd USB-C port for data if I need to.Profile: To avoid damage to my USB 2.0/3.0 ports, I tend to remove USB antennae for my pointing devices before I pack my PC up and put it into my backpack. The base on this Knaive adapter is low enough profile that I’m not afraid to leave it in all the time.Data Transfer: Sorry, but I’ve not tried to move data through this adapter, so I cannot comment on that. The specifications on this device say that it can move 10Gbp/sec worth of data.Flexibility / Orientation: I like that I can use this adaptor with the power cord going towards the back of the laptop or towards the front. I tend to move around throughout the day and popping the power cord on and off, or re-orienting it (front / back) is so much easier. I just orient the cord (from the front, or from the back) and move the adapter close to its base and it clicks into place each time. I don’t have to search for the USB-C socket, and I don’t have to worry about damaging it by inserting the tip due to misalignment. I’ve done this several times in a very dimly (dark) room and it was fast and simple. No hunting for the right socket, and no more risking accidently inserting a USB-C tip into my USB 3.0 slot.Visual Feedback: The little LED light on the magnetic adaptor is handy in that it indicates if electricity is flowing through the adaptor. It is pretty easy to see if the connection between the two magnets is correct, but when someone accidentally unplugs your charger from the outlet, the green light goes out and you can immediately see that (better than the battery icon in the status bar of the PC). Note, even if the batter is fully charged, the LED stays illuminated. The only time it goes out is if the connection between the adaptor and base is not solid, the power to the adaptor is off, or if the base is not properly inserted into the PC.Value: After buying and using this product, I do feel that the $27 price point is a fair value. There are lower cost magnetic USB-C adapters out there. There were some others that are no longer available as they’ve been pulled. Some of those had problems with the magnet being too weak, the base not fitting well, or simply shorting out. I’m glad I waited for this one to come out. I thought it was a risk based on other reviews, but now I’m glad I bought this. I’ve not experienced any of those problems with this. Again, I’ve only used this for a week.

The best replacement for Apple MagSafe I have found so far, and works on other computers too.
USB-C is great in many ways, but I have found it to be not as robust as regular rectangular USB-A or Apple MagSafe. Over time, my USB-C cords/ports have lost the tension that holds them in place, and they now fall out easily. Because of this, I want to limit the amount of unplugging/plugging that I do to reduce wear. I also appreciate the simplicity and safety of a quick attach/detach magnetic coupling.Until now, all of the magnetic adapters for charging had limitations I did not want to accept, ie. no data, directional, not enough force to hold it on, limits charging current...This is the first MagSafe like adapter I have tried that I actually like.- It charges my 2017 MacBook Pro 15 at the full 87 watts.- It is reversible, so I can connect it either way.- It holds on reasonably well, although not as well as real Apple MagSafe.- It will work with data, although I think that is risky as an inadvertent disconnect could cause problems or data loss.- It doesn't stick out far enough to be a bother, and it still fits in my laptop cases.- I like the 90 degree design so the cable isn't sticking out straight from the port.- Gold contacts to prevent corrosion- Since it is an adapter, it can be used on any cable you prefer.- It can be used with any USB-C deviceIt does have a few negatives:- It is long and may block the port next to it depending on how wide the other item to be plugged in is. Most cables will fit just fine in the adjacent port on the MacBook while the magnet is not attached, so it won’t be a bother to leave the computer side of the magnet in place indefinitely. The length contributes to how well it holds together, so I am perfectly willing to accept a blocked port- The length also may prevent it from seating completely with some clamshell cases that only have cutouts for a regular size plug.- It still isn't quite as good as real Apple MagSafe. The magnets could be stronger, as it falls off or gets bumped off much more easily than MagSafe. It is, however, perfectly usable and I will continue to use it every time for charging until something better comes along. Part of the issue is it is an adapter, and not just the end of a cable like MagSafe, so more leverage is applied to the magnet. Apple MagSafe had a really flexible cord that usually fell apart over time and was expensive to replace, but since the magnet was built into the cord, the assembly was very short and stayed in place better.Apple MagSafe wasn't perfect either, so these tradeoffs are worth it to me, and I think this is a very well designed product.

Works, In a Way
It is a bit on the big side [for my Poco F1).The magnets are stronger than the USB Type C socket retention, but too weak to resist cable twisting. It passes data, as well as Fast Charge - in both directions.Any minus? Oh yes, if you twist the cable [rather than tug on it], it will disconnect in a hurry. The same goes for pulling away from the host device. This mode of disconnect is more common than you may suspect. But, if a coupler is to provide safety disconnect, and yet be reusable, there is a mode where it will disconnect unintentionally. Will I keep it? Yes, because I can stop tugging on the phone's USB Type C socket. Some say USB-C is good for 10,000 connections. I think it is a glorified Micro USB; after less than 100 disconnects, it is already loose, with way too much slop in every direction. One more thing: The main selling point for this gadget is the 100W rating. This calls for a relatively stiff cable. Stiff cables are not easy on couplers. Having said that, I find the 87W, 5pins couplers totally useless. Is $26.00 a good price? For the seller, sure. For me, it is outrageously expensive.YMMV!UPDATE:. I contacted Knaive because the magnets in the adapter seemed weak. They rushed over a replacement unit. It works better but my conclusion is: If you want to use this adapter while moving about with the device plugged in to a long cable, use a thinner, softer cable. You may not be able to push 100watts through, but the adapter will not pop loose all the time. Reserve the stiff cable# for the times where your device is sedentary. You will be much happier.
