LPI Linux Certification in a Nutshell: A Desktop Quick Reference (In a Nutshell (O'Reilly))

Best linux cert book I have used
Honestly, this is the only Linux certification book I've ever used but O'reilly books are some of the best and this particular LPIC book is really laid out nicely. Very readable with bold-face print for ease of absorbing the material.I don't put a huge amount of stock into certifications but they do give you a proven set of knowledge with which to start. This is a critical component of building out your knowledge base on a new subject.

I passed!!
Good book, it really helped me pass the LPI certification, even if some questions in the LPI weren't covered. I feel however that the knowledge this book gives is more important than knowing the answer: it's a great and deep introduction to Linux, it's architecture and common commands, and while some topics are outdated or are no longer relevant, it's still a great book

very condensed bunch of useful gems
I also used LPIC-1: Linux Professional Institute Certification Study Guide: (Exams 101 & 102) and LPIC-1/CompTIA Linux+ Certification All-in-One Exam Guide. Nutshell provided a way to review the salient points without all the window dressing. "Just the facts mam." And it also touched on a few things not in the other books that did show up on my exams. Well worth it as an adjunct to the other two or, I imagine, if you're already skilled with Linux its an excellent reminder of the things you need to keep in mind going into the exams.

New version is only for 101 & 102
I had the 2nd version, released 2006 awesome included all 6 tests. New release should not be marked 3rd edition as its a new book and contains only 1/3 or the material that the first 2 editions had. After using Michael Jang's book for Level 1 and passing I purchased this book only to find out it contained only level 1. I ASSUMED 3rd edition meant updated and rearranged topics to reflect the new layout. I was very disappointed. After receiving I did reread the description and does say it has everything you need to pass level 1. I used Michael Jang's book for level 1 as it was updated while I was testing. I think its deceptive to say 3rd edition when you've removed 2/3rds of the material. At what don't does it become a new book vs. next edition. Does that mean LPIC-2 will be the 4th edition? Ugh, can't find any study material for level 2. Am looking for 2nd edition and will use LPI.org level 2 objectives and jump around the book.

Read the description carefully. If you have the 2nd edition; this 3rd edition might not be what you expect.
Should have read the description in more detail.I have the 2nd Edition of this book. And bought this 3rd Edition thinking it would be an updated version of the 2nd.BUT to my surprise when receiving this 3rd Edition; it's only an updated version of HALF of the 2nd Edition. The 2nd Edition covers all exams for both LPIC-1 and LPIC-2.This 3rd Edition only covers exams for LPIC-1.

Slightly out-of-date, but still very useful.
It's a 2010 edition, so it's out of date, but the quizzes and exercises appear useful. And except for the change-over to SystemD, most of the stuff is reasonably accurate, but don't depend on it to pass the test.
