Not impressed... from a vet with 4 cats.
I am a veterinarian, and I have had several clients swear by Evo foods. This marked my first and likely only experience with the brand. I have 4 cats, so I liked that this product came in a larger can so I thought I would give it a try. When I opened the can, I was solidly unimpressed with the texture and color. It's like a tannish grey paste, with a similar consistency to spackle.I fed this food to my cats, and have summarized their responses to this food from best to worst:1. Garbage Cat. We recently adopted him from a rural SPCA. He pretty much much lived on a trash pile and ate whatever he could find before coming to our house. He generally prefers wet food to dry, but he isn't terribly picky. When we gave him this food, he ate one bowl of it willingly. However, subsequent efforts were met with seriously sad eyes and eventual refusal.2. The Hungry One. He begs and begs, and consumes his food in like 4 seconds, sometimes promptly throwing it back up. He is a surprisingly picky eater for how hungry he is, but he loves anything beef flavored, particularly actual beef. He was ran to the dish as usual, but seemed unimpressed by the smell. He eventually ate a bit of the food, but gave up on it.3. The Weird One. Her behavior is odd, but let's just say she's lucky she's cute. She gave this food the old college try, and I had to commend her efforts. She licked... and licked... and licked. She finally gave up after what seemed like a eternity, but she had barely made a dent in the pile. I guess the spackle was a little to thick for her weird little tongue.4. The Fat One. She is 13 pounds of pure food seeking energy. She will eat anything... or try to. After all the cats finish their food, she goes from bowl to bowl licking the any last particle they may have left behind. I put this Evo Beef food in front of her. She sniffed it, looked at me with terror, tried to bury it, and walked away. To be clear, I once saw this cat walk up to a ball of cat fur, look around, and then eat it.. and it wasn't even her own fur. A food that makes her turn her nose and give up on eating is not a palatable diet in my book. This food may be 95% beef, but it's the consistency of spackle and 0 out of 4 cats like it.

Yep Yep
When I first got this one the beef I also bought the venison as well.Same post I put for the venison. At first my cat ate it with no problem but then after a while he stopped eating it. Unknown reasons since when I bought my first round he would gobble it right up.The food actually has a nice firm pate texture and the smell of the food is actually pretty nice. No stink at all like a lot of canned foods have.I like the fact that this food is grain free since grains are not digested in the cats systems.I still have a few cans left from my second purchase of this brand and I will eventually introduce it to him again. He seems to eat certain canned food stop will eat another brand and if I switch them around occasionally he will go back to eating the Evo.TJ is however a very picky eater so I always have to change things up from time to time.Either way I give this food both thumbs up!!I recommend for first timers to buy little as possible the first time to make sure your cat/s is going to even like the change from canned foods that are consider "junk foods" to a canned food that is grain free and healthier and more beneficial towards their well being. Not all cats will like this food and as with any canned cat food every cat has a different personality and has different tastes. Will not hurt to try it out! If all else fails and your cat doesn't like the food remember there are adoption places with pets that are always accepting donated food to help feed the animals. :) It will never go to waste.Yes I will/do recommend this food to people!

Good Ingredients, Awful Texture
This product is frustrating because on one hand it has great ingredients. On the other hand, I felt so bad for my cat when he had to eat this. The texture is absolutely horrendous. It resembles peanut butter and my cat had a difficult time eating it because it stuck to the roof of his mouth. It only got worse after being refrigerated. I had to add a ridiculous amount of hot water to this to make it soupy and edible for him. I have not had this problem with other Evo flavors, just the beef and I will not be buying it again. Other brands of beef that he likes include: Weruva, Wellness, Nature's Variety Instinct, and Hound and Gatos.

Long time eater - excellent food
My Persian cat had been on the chicken and turkey version of EVO 95 for a couple of years and was doing well on it, but he seemed to be getting a bit bored with it, to the extent you can tell that with a Persian - they're not as demonstrative as short-hairs. I thought maybe I'd try another of the EVO 95 flavors, was a bit scared to switch to duck etc., and noticed that for some reason beef was less expensive, so I ordered a case. After the usual sniffing and tasting, he now is actually eating more than he did before, although I don't know if the eating more part has anything to do with the flavor. In any case, at the age of 11 as I write this, he's a perky and happy fellow, I feed him twice a day and leave out dry Orijin food for when he starts whining that he's hungry and it's not time to eat yet. I have no doubt that the high protein diet is critical to good health and longevity.
