'I'm the only chance you've got, Rick-o'
Nerdy, weakling college student Rick Taylor lies dying on the floor in the lobby of the massive West Mansion. His girlfriend Jennifer has been kidnapped (the plot of every beat-em-up ever) by the maniacal Doctor West. A mask topples out of a nearby sarcophagus, it speaks to him, promising an extension to his life, and, more importantly, revenge. Upon donning the mask, Rick is not transformed into a green-faced party animal in a yellow suit, but a muscle-bound raging hulk ready to take on any monsters the West Mansion has to offer. There's plenty of splatter, and plenty of house, so, if nothing else, it certainly lives up to the title. Fortunately there IS a lot more to enjoy. Splatterhouse is probably the bloodiest game of all time and is a great beat-em-up, but it does begin to wither by your third play-through. The gameplay is very. very similar to that of Batman: Arkham Asylum (PS3) , though nowhere near as polished. And a lot of Rick abilities are similar to that of Alex Mercer from Prototype (PS3) . It's no secret that the game had a troubled production. Bottle Rocket Games was fired (and rendered defunct as a result) by Namco around early 2009, and it took Namco's in-house team nearly a year and a half to fill in the rest. The game still feels rushed and unfinished. The biggest problem lies with the fact that the game does not install to your PS3, but merely loads off the Blu Ray disc. This creates very, very long loading times that will REALLY drive you mad. Aside from that, you'll have an absolute ton of fun with Splatterhouse. Pros: Great script. Great dialogue/characters. Nude pictures of Jennifer. Lots of satisfying blood and gore. Contains the arcade version of the original Splatterhouse as well as Splatterhouse 2 (Mega Drive) and Splatterhouse 3, which were exclusive to the Mega Drive and extremely hard to come by. It's worth buying for these two alone. Cons: Extremely long loading times. Graphics are only in 720p. Some really cheap deaths (wouldn't be such a problem if it were not for the loading times). Seriously...the loading times are a killer. THIS GAME REALLY SHOULD HAVE INSTALLED ONTO THE PS3!!! Graphics B Sound B Gameplay B Lasting Appeal B+

SplatterHouse (PS3)
Very violent and gory game with a brilliant metal soundtrack. I would recommend if you're of that persuasion looking for a taste of comedy with two old-school classics chucked in (splatter house 1+2 as well!)

Great title, Bad game
First of all being a fan of the original series I had quite high hopes for this, turns out the best thing about this game for me was the inclusion of the original 3 splatterhouse games, anyway I played the new game all the way through in hope that it would capture the creepy and creative first two titles {wasn't overly keen on the third} but it left me disapointed, here are my reasons why. Bad camera: you will constantly find yourself trying to centre the camera to where you want it to be and having to move the camera with the analogue stick in a situation where enemy's are coming at you from all sides will usually ends with being hit by a succession of cheap hits. Level design: unlike the first two games there is no creepy atmosphere, no scares the level design is cartoony in fact the last few levels look like the Eek the cat level from Earthworm Jim, in general none of the levels seem unfinished almost like the game designers really put a rush on this to release it before Christmas. Character design: The main character is no longer a Jason Voorhees lookalike instead he's a weedy screamo fan who turns into Bain in mosher clothes when he puts on the mask, theres an evil scientist who looks like he should be on animaniacs, Jennifer Ricks girlfriend if you walk around the levels you find topless pictures of her thats about all she offers to the game, seriously did a twelve year old make this game. 2D sections: This was the part of the game I was looking forward to the most as it is a throwback to the original titles however the control kills this one bad jumping controls will just make you want to bypass these parts as quickly as possible. Load times: I have never seen a game on PS3 take this long to load, between deaths you will have to stare at a monster on the screen for about 25 seconds before it starts up again, add that to the 2d instadeath sections and you will get very frustrated. Last points the game has a total of about 14 enemys that you fight over and over, a choice of about 5 weapons to use on the same enemys over and over, the same quicktime kills {for some reason the background turns black for these parts almost like they couldnt be bothered to add a background} over and over. In conclusion its taken 17 years for a new splatterhouse game to come out this was a disapointment, for an 18 cert game it is very juvenile, if you really want to play this game i suggest a rental.

Only for very patient people
Only slasher I couldn't get on with, silly amount of blood, shallow storyline and the longest loading times ever, already sold on ebay.
