Heavier Things is John Mayer's second studio album, originally released in 2003 and the last one that features his characteristic laidback acoustic rock. After this record his music gradually transformed into a more bluesy style. Heavier Things features his hits "Clarity" and "Daughters". Although the last one is one of his biggest hits, Mayer has always been resistant on releasing this song as a single because at that time his music was turning into another direction. He was still skeptical even when he won a Grammy for it, which he mentioned in his speech upon receiving the award. However, his label decided that "Daughters" should be chosen over other candidates because it would be more well-received by radio. Given its success not a very silly idea.

Heavier Things by John Mayer is heavier!
I am a huge fan of John Mayer. He is an exceptional artist between his writing, singing and playing. This album is, indeed, just a bit heavier than some of his other efforts. Daughters is on here but you may not recognize a lot of the other songs...still great music.

Very talented, very pleasant album
First off, John Mayer is the real thing. In a musical world filled with garbage, Mayer has an authentic desire to create good music, share it with the world, and the talent to produce some wonderful stuff. For that alone he is most welcome. One of my favorite groups of all time is Swing Out Sister. They suffered because they combined jazz and pop. The first track on Heavier Things is very close to an SOS track. John also reminds me of Steely Dan in a way. The reason I didn't give this 5 stars is that I know John can do much better. His Any Given Thursday CD is a revelation. This man and his band can jam. He obviously has some love for jazz and the blues and he needs to incorporate that more. Even if it means losing a few non-adventurers he has enough cache to bring his audience (and studio) along and introduce them to new music. Plus the success of many new artists who combine genres is one of the best developments in music and John could be one of the leaders if he wanted to, he has the talent. He is just much too talented to be another pop-rocker. Heavier Things is a very enjoyable album with many fine contributions and no bad tracks....but Mayer can do better and I trust he will.

Very Fine Work
This is John Mayer's best record except for Continuum; I liked Heavier Things better than his debut album, although both were very good.It leans more towards a bluesy feel, which is good when you need a record that is going to play well when you are reading or enjoying a quiet evening alone."Clarity" is the finest track on the recod. The lyrics are pure genius."Bigger Than My Body" is my personal favorite. It's uplifting; but in a subtle way that catches you by surprise."Daughters" was the biggest hit on the record, bringing tears to millions of girls all over the world. I enjoyed it, too-- at the beginning. But eventually I thought this track was pandering a little to listeners and radio stations. It's crushing and painful to listen to, without actually telling a story."Home Life" is a song you will love if you have kids. It's amazing that Mayer came up with a song like this even though he doen't actually have an children. It seems like something actually written by an older man with much more life experience.A very enjoyable record.

Very good job.
I think that John Mayer has a very long carreer ahead. His first album brought him two Top 20 hits and a Grammy award. Now with "HAVIER THINGS" he prooves that that wasn't just fluke. The first single of this album, "BIGGER THAN MY BODY", was a great single, it maybe didn't made it very high in the charts (Peaked at #33 on Billboard's Hot 100) but he delivers a great performance.Although this album debuted at #1, it started to fall very fast. One year after, "DAUGHTERS" was released and made the album become Platinum x2 and climb the charts while the song also was also making a good impression until it brought John his second Grammy, this time for song of the year.Anyway, that's just the commercial part of the album . This album has great lyrics, production and John's performances are very good. Both his albums are great, I think that in a way he is the new version of Bruce Springsteen but with own style. Check the songs "CLARITY", "BIGGER THAN MY BODY", "SOMETHING'S MISSING", "SPLIT SCREEN SADNESS" and "WHEEL".

John Mayer Matures and Makes an Impressive Follow Up
I have to whole heartedly disagree with those who find this wonderful follow up drivel. It seems that John Mayer has matured and grown in his song writing and I find these songs to be beautiful and insightful, striking cords on the many things we all worry and ponder about while in our twenties or any age for that matter. As Mayer is in his twenties, I figure that he's visiting the themes that played out for me during that decade and into my thirties! Clarity is about finding the one that you love and taking the time to find out if it will last forever...and wondering if the relationship is truly the best thing for you. Something's Missing harkens to feelings that we have all had about what truly makes us happy, and despite that we may have everything we deem important, sometimes there's a void that we may not know how to fill. Homelife has a fun and catchy rhythm, feeding on the idea of marriage, and children and waiting for the RIGHT person so that it lasts a lifetime. I have to say, BRAVO John Mayer. You have made a worthy follow up to your incredible debut, with something a little more....a little honesty in how we feel as our life progresses and our search for love and happiness as we grow and change into "responsible" adults.

I'm very satisfied.
Everything about the transaction was perfect. I listen to the album in the car. I already owned this album but it was old and scratched needed replacing. I arrived very quickly (next day). I'm very satisfied.

Another brilliant piece of work
I'm discovering John Mayer backwards, having started with his most recent album "The search for everything". I've now bought all his albums and even though I was a bit worried that his earlier work might not show the same maturity, this is absolutely not the case. Brilliant songs, some ear worms, amazing guitar riffs, poetic songs with words that go straight to your heart... Heavier things is just brilliant. Go buy it!

more weight than his debut
'Room for Squares' had some stand-out tracks ('Why Georgia', '3x5s', 'Neon' and 'Your body is a wonderland' in particular) but as a whole this album, excuse the obvious pun, certainly has more weight. As a whole, musically and lyrically there is a lot more going on here and the sound of an artist on the up (his master-peice 'Continuum' was to follow) is here to be heard. 'Bigger than my body' and Daughters' are the stand-out tracks here.
