Great Router
Pros:- Good Small business Router- Easy to configure if you are in IT- Tons of features- Great for VOIP systemsCons:- NoneVery quality router. Do not expect to buy this router as a home user and be able to easily configure it. I am an IT technician and this is a very easy interface to use and configure, however, you still need some IT knowledge. Put this in place at a business, configured Bandwidth management to resolve quality issues with VOIP (Voice Over IP). There are lots of features and settings that can be customized. An example of this would be the ability to turn off SIP (which a lot of routers don't offer customizable settings for). Please note that this router does NOT have built in wireless and you will have to purchase a "w" series Zywall router if you want that capability. VLANs are easy to work with, WAN and LAN settings are very easy to input. All in all a great router.Value: The value seems to be around $240 - $300. Comparing it to other routers, its hard to beat the price. Try getting a Cisco router with the same capabilities for the same price.. good luck! I know it seems like a lot of money but with todays market its a fair price.

A true bargain for all it's strength.
Very solid , minor glitch with updating but nothing serious. Kept saying uploading the firmware and after a while I cut the connection and it was on it ready to flash. A few adjustments and all stealth. Great bandwidth and lots of options for whatever configuration you might require.Very solidly built and convection cooled for silent operation. Really is a true firewall in every sense of the word and the price is extremely fair for all the abilities of the box. Very stable and support was fast to help solve the firmware issue. Wireless seems to be faster than other brands.

This is my new go-to firewall for small businesses. It takes a little while to learn how to set everything up but it works well and the SSL VPN works great. ZyXEL does a really good job with documentation too.

Good Throughput, But Drop The UTM Services
Just had it one day. It could not be configured without updating the firmware by connecting to it through FTP in a DOS box. The default firmware was not compatible with any browser (Explorer and Chrome) that I had. Once updated, Chrome could see it without generating errors. I started with the trial UTM services activated. That only allowed about 60Mbps throughput. I deactivated the UTM services and rebooted and it went up to 180 Mbps. I have 200Mbps Internet service, so the UTM services took a BIG chunk out of throughput. I was a little disappointed until I saw that they wanted $380/year for the UTM services. There is no way that I would pay that.

Poor WAN Performance, deceptive marketing
At first, I thought this firewall was a dream come true. All of the features as stated on its website and box were simply amazing, especially the throughput. Buy I soon discovered a problem, well after my 30 day trial period of UTM. What I discovered was that the WAN throughput was throttled to more than half my internet bandwidth. Even after disabling all UTM services and any other bandwidth-limiting services, my bandwidth still didn't improve. After returning the device through RMA, and spending more than a month with their technical support, I learned that even Technical Support had the same issue I was having. But they quickly cited that they clearly stated in their marketing materials that it was designed that way. Interesting...but not designed to be that way when all of the services are off. Which is what I discovered: once UTM is enabled, there is no way to turn it off through the UI or CLI. It says it is off, but it isn't. I studied the packet captures and did countless hours of testing, and I confirmed that the issue is with faulty programming. Even my Asus router didn't have any issues for simple SPI firewall. What is the point of getting this firewall when everything is turned off? This is an absolutely garbage product, and at first I thought this was an amazing deal, I was deceived. Never again will I buy a Zyxel product (I own a few and I'm replacing them all).

Great router, it's all I use
Being an IT guy I wanted a reliable business-grade router with good support and an alternative to Sonicwall. ZyXel is awesome. I've sold and registered literally dozens of these things, starting with USG20's a few years back to USG110 for specialized needs. Had one failure in all that time, in an area where the router was getting warmer than normal IIRC. You just gotta know what you're doing and how to setup the router to get what you want out of it. And IPsec is not broken. I use the ZyXel client and it works perfectly every, single, time.

It will not achieve the 400 Mbps at the firewall....
I bought this due to a fiber entrance at home and 400 Mbps advertised at the fiber modem. All I could get out was 125 -150 Mbps from the USG-40, not even close to the advertised rate. I swapped in a protectli 4 port with ipfire or pfsense and achieved 480 MBps with ease and many more features. It will cost you a little more, but you get what you pay for, (except with Zyxel)
