The unit worked adequately for the first few uses and it did make a noticeable difference to the temperature of the room, though it seemed to struggle to bring the temperature below 21 degrees centigrade. It was also far noisier than I was expecting even on the lowest setting. Unfortunately, the air conditioning function completely stopped working after a few uses and no longer cooled the room during last week's heatwave. I also had trouble registering the warranty with Black & Decker who didn't seem to recognise the model. When attempting to call their line to request advice and support, I was consistently met with an automated message saying they were unable to pick up and to call back some other time or to email them instead. Needless to say, I've not been impressed at all and expected much better quality and service from Black & Decker. We have returned this via Amazon who also confirmed they're seeing a lot of people return these units due to similar problems as of June 2026. Something to be mindful if in case your unit also develops a fault - perhaps some of us have just been unlucky.

It's a portable aircon so has its limits. With a window kit it will cool the room but only by about 3°* . Having said that sitting directly in front of it is very cooling and 100 times better than a fan in a heatwave. It is noisy but only as noisy as other portable units. It did not stop me sleeping. It is heavy, but again the same as other portable units. It's probably not cheap to run, but definitely worth it in heatwave conditions. Note if you start with a cool room it keeps it cool: in the current heatwave my flat got up to 35° by midday, even following all the advice re. Curtains & windows, but my living room stayed at about 25 or 26 rising to 28 when I briefly switched it off to go out.

I ordered this in the recent heatwave we've had in the UK for the loft rooms (both a bedroom and an office), where the temperature can easily get to 35-40C. It did arrive quickly. The disappointing thing was that it didn't come with the window fitting for a sash window as you'd expect, only a casement window (even though it has parts like the end of the hose that are designed for the sash window fitting) - I think this should be made more obvious on the listing. Contacting Black and Decker directly they have 'run out of these parts' so I've had to purchase a universal one. Frustrating to have to do when you're spending above £250. The actual machine itself looks very smart and being able to control it via the app is very handy (it does also come with a remote control if you don't want to use the app). Yesterday it kept my room at a more comfortable 24-26 degrees instead of 30, so it did definitely have an effect (granted this wasn't with the proper fitting, this was make-shifting with cushions and towels to fill the window gap so I'll be interested to see if it improves more when it's fitted better). The noise is very loud, so if you're not someone who likes to sleep with noise in the background this won't be for you. The noise is quite consistent and doesn't change in frequency, so it's essentially like a very loud fan, which for me I don't mind. I did manage to work with it during the day (I had meetings though I use headphones with a mic so this wasn't an issue in the end). Mobility wise I've found it easy to move from room to room - I have carpet and was worried it'd struggle to roll across it but it's been fine. It's a little cooler today and I'm not rushing to put it back on - the noise is a factor in that. But in the middle of the night where it got too hot again it cooled the room down really quickly, so that's where it's really been valuable so far. Overall I'm happy, it loses 1 star for me for the listing not detailing more clearly which window fitting it comes with and not being able to source one from Black and Decker.

Too loud too sleep with it in the room. Even with earplugs or ANC buds. I've tried. I'm a light sleeper tho, and have sleeping problems, so if you're like that too, this is not for you. I have attached dB measurements. The product description, and even the attached sticker, both list it as 65dB high. I was unable to replicate that measurement. In my experience the lowest it gets is ~72dB, ~80dB with fan high. Otherwise, well built and cools fast.

A good little unit, cools well and is as noisy as you would expect. It says portable but in reality it will remain fixed in one position because of the exhaust system, which needs to vent outside. You could in theory just hang the pipe out of any open window but that defeats the cooling effect. So the open window and exhaust pipe should be sealed from outside airflow to maximise the cooling. One big negative, it states that the product is Smart and compatible with Google, it is not. It will work with the B&D app and Tuya Smart Life app but it will not accept voice control via Google Home and not operate in the Home app. This could be solved by a simple coding update but I doubt anyone at B&D will bother. This was not a deal breaker for me but it lost a star because of it. I recommend it for anyone who has a hot room (especially bedroom) that needs cooling, the noise is noticeable but preferable to sleeping in a sauna. I've lived with air-conditioners before and the sound becomes like a white noise machine eventually.

Good value . But Amazon delivery totally hopeless . I left clear directions how to find my house number which is in large letters above the door . Despite this left three doors down at a totally different house . Incompetent and inexcusable for such a valuable item and I will not use Amazon ever again for high value bulky items . Blimey, am I glad I got this neat device. It's cooling a garden room which can get rather breathless. Using air-conditioning is not very British, but neither is the weather at the moment. Here's a glowing and honest review - I only review products I think are great and nobody pays me. After using this for a few weeks, I can wholeheartedly recommend it. It takes a little while to "bed-in", and after a week or so the rattling stopped and I have learnt how to use it. I suggest not using it at the maximum cooling of 18C, even on the hottest days, 20 or 21C works fine. It has not been necessary to use any more than the minimum fan speed. I see no reason to add more cr@p onto my phone, so I'm not using the app - it has a remote anyway, which is handy. I spent a little time making holes in the shed wall with exit wounds for the air and water hoses. You will need a vent hood of the correct size to do this. The advantage of doing this is that I do not have to faff around with the window thing, which is inappropriate for my uses. Also, I don't have to bother emtying the water tank. As the air gets cooled, moisture is removed from the air and is collected in the tank. Currently the tube sticks out the side of the shed and drips regularly. Make sure the water has a downhill path if you choose to do this. I tend not to use it at night, but it is possible. It's certainly quiet enough - it makes a "white-noise" fan sound, which is either going to work for you or not. Now the rattling has passed, I am surprised how quiet it is. I chose this one because it's my first AC and I wanted a brand I trusted. I decided to get the 7000BTU because it's performance is more than I need, meaning I am not straining the thing. This AC works for single rooms - I'm not sure it'll do your entire crib. The only drawback I have found is that the carry handles are a bit rubbish, as others have said. I don't worry about this because it's not going to move from its current position very much and it has wheels anyway. The rattling, though, seems to pass as the machine finds its groove. I look at this a bit like audio equipment which needs burning in - the electrical compnents and compressors in the AC need to do the same thing, I think. So this makes an uncomfortable little room habitable in the summer. I have somewhere to watch cricket, read and lsten to music in peace. If the above seems similar to what you need, I heartily recomment this thing.

Like a very noisy fan. Ran a decibel checker and it measured 80db. I live in a south west facing flat and it brings heat down about 2/3 degrees in a 20m² living room. Had it on all day yesterday. It went down 3 degrees to 27 with all. doors and windows shut, reflective blinds closed and would not go any lower. I thought the 7000BTU would be good for this size room as stated, but clearly not! Would probably work well in a small bedroom but unless you can literally sleep through anything, as it is very loud, you'd turn it off before bed! I had it set to come on in the morning in the living room next door. Even with the living room door closed It still woke me up in the morning.
