mouse seems to goto sleep after a few minutes but does not wake when I move it around. I then have to switch off / on. Is this a defect?

The mouse goes into standby when not used for a while. You need to click on it and it comes back to life. Anything else-it means it is faulty. I never needed to switch it ON and OFF and so far the batteries last in excess of 6 months. I am using 2x AAA batteries with AA adaptors to make the mouse lighter.
