Yes, it has 4 speeds - Solar (sun tracking), Lunar (moon tracking), 1/2 sidereal (1/2 star speed), and sidereal (star tracking). During the recent solar eclipse I was able to keep the sun in my camera frame for over 90 minutes with a 900mm equivalent lens.

is this easy to figure out and configure for a total beginner to astro photog? How many hours to use it properly? thanks.

I was a total beginner when I got mine. Its easy to use. The first time I tried it I got a good picture of the orion nebula. Probably put in 5 hours incld post proccessing but enjoyed what I was doing.

What is the weight limit?

Just rechecked the manual; spec is “up to 11lbs (5kg)”. I would say that’s the absolute max, bases on my experience with the mount. I’ve got a Meade 102 mm SC with a Canon 70D DSLR attached (around 8lbs) and the mount can handle it.
