Yes, there are tools, such as the Pro Joiner, and you really should use one. The V-nails are too soft to insert using a hammer. Take care to order the right length for your framing material - - three-eigths turns out to be a shade long for some frames towards the inner edges.

If you're talking about Logan 3/8" V nails, Amazon has them.

Can these v nails be used with just a hammer?

You can but you really should get the Logan frame joined, much more precise and cleaner corners. Well worth the investment. When you smack these with a hammer they will invariable bend out of shape.
