Well, yes.. you can.. its holds the fishing pole, in a very steady position. Absolutely no shake or vibrations. Its a fantastic value addition.

will this prevent the mic from rotating if it is pointed at an angle toward the interviewee, or can it only be used to hold the mic pointed downward?

Because the rubberized coating, this will prevent the boom pole from rotating. As long as the mic doesn’t rotate on the boom pole, you will be good. I use this to point my mic directly towards my subjects and it works great!

The diameter of the shaft is about 2inch

It looks great,but how would you attach it to a mic stand?

Normally you wouldn't put this in a mic stand. It's regular use would be in a C-Stand arm so that you can suspend the shotgun mic in either an under-up or and up-down to target the best direction to go at the sound from your subject. To put in a standard mic stand you would have to have something similar to a gaffer clamp like a mafer.

Definitely worth the price of entry.

Works exactly like it should for a 3rd of the price of the "pro" brands out there. No where does it claim to be a 1/2" thick shank. In fact none of the pro ones are 1/2" either. It's definitely made of steel and is not nickel plated and then painted silver as suggested. Its more than strong enough to hold any boompole/mic/blimp combo and I cant see any bending at all. Definitely worth the price of entry. I've had no issue mounting it in a c-stand. c-stands have multiple sized holes so not sure how someone could not use this and have it be effective.

It snapped!

My colleague has one, so I know it's sturdy. Unfortunately the one I brought snapped on 1st use, good thing someone was close by and able to catch the boom before the mic hit the ground. I did a return and got a new quicker than I got the 1st one. I think I just got a bootleg one at first. I'm sure I'll be fine now. Appreciate the quick turn around on this! I'm giving 5 stars for that. If it snaps again I will change the rating
