Red Lion RL-SPRK150 Sprinkler/Irrigation Pump, 115/230V, 71 GPM, 1.5 HP

This arrived days earlier than promised. My sprinkler guy recommended this over the one his supplier gets because it was, according to him, the same specs but was $200 cheaper as well as quieter. I have had it for a week and have run it daily, some days all day long. It is much quieter than my last motor, puts out the same power, and has run well so far. My sprinkler guy said he has been recommending this for a while and has not been called back for repairs.

Performed flawlessly for several summers now while using it to pump water from lake to water lawn, trees and plants.

This pump was to replace another that had reached the end of it's useful life. At first I thought I had a problem. Kept losing prime. Did find that the drain plug was leaking a little. Taped that up and reinstalled. Leak was gone but loss of prime continued. Could not find any other leaks. However, a little logic suggested that the problem could be somewhere other than in my new pump. This is a shallow well, so I pulled the suction pipe up. Found some trash in the foot valve. Seemed odd since I'd never had such before. Wonder if this might have been debris settled from the new pump. Debris from the manufacturing process. Can't say for sure. Replaced the foot valve and the problem of losing prime was gone. After long idle periods (a week or two) the pump now begins to pump water immediately when turned on. The volume actually seems to be better than the old one. Very happy with my new pump. Would recommend.

Product was installed properly and worked fine for 3 weeks on my sprinkler system. I turned the system off for 5 days while we were gone. I restarted the sprinkler system when I got home and the pump lost prime and seized up.

I could not get the pump to prime from my shallow well despite multiple attempts using the priming port on the pump. I decided I would back fill the pump by hooking up a garden hose and city water. To do so, I had to cut the discharge line free, and temporarily plumb in a hose bib as shown in the photo. Because the hose bib and the end of the garden hose have the same male threaded ends, I had to get a double-ended female adapter from the local big box store. Since it was temporary, I did not glue this section of pipe or fittings. The bottom line is this worked exactly as planned. The pump repeatedly continued to self-prime after turning off the city water. One might consider spending a few bucks on some extra fittings, and plumb in a hose bib just in case. With the finished discharge plumbing, I did continue to integrate the hose bib. I figured if I ever needed to re-prime the pump, it would be easy to do so.Some prior reviews have complained about confusing or lacking instructions for wiring up the pump. Myself, I thought the instructions were straightforward. My pump came pre-wired for 230v. I simply had to hook one leg to L1, and the other leg to L2, and connect the ground. To wire for 115v, all one had to do was pull the wired connector off, and move it over to the left and reconnect it to the blade connectors. The white arrow on the connector needs to point either to 230v or 115v, depending on one's power source. Again, then connect one wire to L1 and the other to L2. Since it is alternating current, it doesn't matter which wire goes where.As far as noise, I found the pump to be very quiet. Certainly compared to the pump it was replacing. Since this pump sat lower than the pump I was replacing, and since the pipes come through the garage wall, I had to build a wooden platform to raise the pump to the required height. The pump comes mounted to a 3/8" wooden board, which I continued to use and integrated into the platform I built, You can use it or not. Two bolts fasten it to the board. All in all, despite the priming issue, I'm satisfied with this pump at present.

Ordered for my wash all parts cabinet. Much quieter than my old pump, more pressure too.I did have to get a 2 inch to 1.5 reducer for the inlet at HD. Instructions didn't mention wiring the L1 L2 but I got it figured out for 115v

This is better and quieter than others from the same company, but it was designed for irrigation so. I have used it twice, because I have to ditch water my yard. It figures though that it won't stop raining enough for me to use it more, but I do like it and I'm really surprised the local stores don't care this one instead. It was also less expensive than the ones local.

Barely used sprinkler pump making a high pitched sound just as the 2 year warranty has expired. My American made Red Lion pump lasted 10 years without a problem. My advice: Don't buy any pumps made in China, like this one was. If you must buy one then buy the extended warranty. I certainly wish I had. I will probably buy a different brand from now on because I think Red Lion knew these pumps were not built to last.
