One in five adults suffer from IBS, yet IBS still baffles the medical profession as there are no definitive tests for it – it’s often the diagnosis given in the absence of any positive tests. As such, it encompasses a huge variety of gastrointestinal disorders and many suffers fail to get the treatment they need. Take Control of Your IBS brings together over thirty years of research at the busiest IBS clinic in the country and will serve to both educate the reader and provide proven treatment solutions, including more alternative approaches such as hypnotherapy. After reading this book, the reader will be equipped with a multi-faceted treatment strategy – the hallmark of Professor Whorwell’s highly successful approach – and ready to engage beneficially with doctors.

If you really wan to get better, consider this book
I've been diagnosed with IBS more than eight years ago. I've seen many doctors and researched a lot myself on the condition and it's healing myself too. I now use different methods from different sources to get better. But tis book still helped me understand so much that I hadn't figured out yet. It's also a good book if you want to understand IBS better if someone close to you is suffering. Make sure they read this too :)

Easy to read and packed with useful information about IBS
This easy to read, easy to follow book will enable IBS sufferers to fully understand the sometimes confusing symptoms and aspects of IBS. The book provides sufferers with options and tips they may utilise in order to get relief from this condition. I found the book highly informative, and as a sufferer of 33 years with this condition I still learned a number of facts of which I was not aware. So there is always something new to learn even when you think you know everything there is to know about your condition. I highly recommend this book for both long-term and newbie sufferers of IBS!

EXCELLENT guide and a MUST READ and IMPLEMENT for IBS sufferers!
I have struggled with IBS since I was 11 or 12 (I am now 33) I have spent literally thousands of dollars on medical consults, functional medicine tests, behavioural therapists etc. No one or method really game me much guidance. IBS is generally poorly managed. I got to the stage where I educated myself and managed my own condition as best I could as I gave up hope of finding someone to help me.In 2013, I found Professor Whorwell. At the time I was living in Sydney and flew to Manchester (UK) to visit him. I learned more in that one hour consult than I had in years prior as to why I was still unable to manage my IBS. Since then, following Professor Whorwell's guidance my IBS is SIGNIFICANTLY more manageable (not cured) and my quality of life in INFINITELY better. I remain under his care for the ongoing management of my condition. If you have IBS - look no further. You must read this book and implement (do the work!). There are many conflicting views on the management of IBS. When you read this book you may find some of the things that you are eating and doing now are in fact making your symptoms much worse. If what you are currently doing is not working for you - commit to change and follow through.Thank you so much Prof Whorwell for your guidance and the work that you do, you have changed my life and I hope this book changes many others.Kind Regards,Rachel Guy

Really good book written so ordinary people can understand!
This book was recommended by my Gastroenterologist to help with management of IBS. It's one of the few books that doesn’t major on FODMAP diets or one particular treatment, this makes it a good overall summary of all the symptoms and potential ways to treat them. Like any book it's not got everything in it but it's a good read and has already helped me ask the right questions.
