not very practical for botanists
it's not a very complete guide. And it doesn't have all the information in one page. The scientific names are at the end, and the botanical families too. So, one has to go to three diferent sections of the book to know all the important information about a plant. That's not at all convenient for a botanist like me who wants to learn about the plants of this continent (I'm not from here)

You have your flower... now you quickly and easily locate its photo- identity established!
"What's that Flower?" is a small, fairly portable field guide designed to help people identify some of the more common wild flowers of the UK. Please note: "common". This not an exhaustive catalogue of every wild flower in the whole of the Britain, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. It is for the amateur/embryonic wild flower enthusiast, the sort of person who wants to tell a primula from a cowslip. It is wee bit simplistic for the more advanced student. Among its merits are the size, colour and clarity of the photos. Even without my glasses on I could still see and, to some extent, identify each plant. (The pictures in some books are so small you need to a magnifying glass to see them.) However, the book's best feature is the way it is designed. As the headline says: you have your flower, now you quickly and easily locate it by looking it up, first under colour and then by size. Surely the obvious way for most people, especially beginners. Having spent hours poring over other books trying to find the picture of the flower I have just spotted, something pretty obscure for the most part, where the pictures are arranged according to the alphabetical order of the plants' names- in Latin!- this is a dream to use. You just look up 'yellow flowers', small or large, or 'blue flowers', small or large- job done! Each picture is accompanied by a simple description, although there is additional information towards the back, something to carry the reader forward if they want to delve a bit deeper. My one gripe is that it would be good to have something to give a sense of scale. On page 98 there is a picture of ivy-leaved toad flax, on page 99 one of monkshood. The toad flax looks like a giant, the monkshood like a Lilliputian, the reverse of their relative sizes. There are average measurements of the height of each plant underneath the entries, but I don't think that's as good as, say, a ballpoint pen placed beside the plant. Then there is an instant sense of scale. However, that's a minor gripe. I would say that this is what it says on the cover: THE SIMPLEST ID GUIDE EVER.
