The SIM That Finally Made My Catโs LTE Collar Work
I didnโt buy this for a phone. I bought it because I went down the rabbit hole of importing an LTE cat tracking collar from overseas, assumed any SIM would work, and learned the hard way that โLTE-onlyโ and โLTE + 4G fallbackโ are not the same thing in real life. This SIM is the one that actually solved the problem. โธป The Backstory: When โLTE Onlyโ Isnโt Enough The first SIM card I tried was marketed as LTE-only. On paper, that sounded perfect. In practice, the tracker connected inconsistently, dropped signal indoors, and failed to register reliably on the network. Thatโs when I realized the issue wasnโt the collar โ it was the SIM. A lot of imported IoT and GPS devices say LTE, but they rely on 4G LTE fallback compatibility to stay connected in real-world conditions. Without that, activation becomes unreliable or flat-out impossible. Thatโs where SpeedTalk came in. โธป Activation: Surprisingly Painless I expected activation to be annoying. It wasnโt. The SIM arrived quickly, and the activation process was straightforward: โข Insert SIM โข Activate online โข Device recognized the network almost immediately No weird APN hunting. No multi-hour troubleshooting. The tracker went from โoccasionally onlineโ to consistently connected. That alone justified the purchase. โธป Network Compatibility: The Real Value Here The biggest reason this worked where the other SIM didnโt is network flexibility. SpeedTalk supports: โข 5G โข 4G LTE โข LTE fallback That matters a lot for small tracking devices that: โข Move in and out of coverage โข Spend time indoors โข Donโt have strong antennas Once installed, the collar stayed connected in situations where it previously dropped off โ indoors, near buildings, and during movement. For a pet tracker, reliability matters more than speed. This delivers that. โธป Plan Limits: Perfect for Tracking, Not Phones Letโs be clear: this is not a phone plan. โข 100 minutes โข 100 texts โข 100 MB of data โข 30 days For a smartphone, thatโs nothing. For a GPS/LTE tracker, itโs ideal. The data usage on a collar is minimal โ small pings, periodic updates, low bandwidth. This plan provides more than enough headroom without paying for data youโll never use. And at $5? Itโs hard to argue with the value. โธป SIM Format: No Guesswork The triple-cut SIM matters more than it sounds. Imported devices are notorious for using odd SIM trays. Being able to punch out mini, micro, or nano without ordering another card saved me time and frustration. Dropped it in, fit perfectly. โธป Stability Over Time After setup: โข No random disconnects โข No surprise deactivations โข No missed updates It just works quietly in the background โ which is exactly what you want from something youโre trusting to help you locate a living animal. You donโt want to think about the SIM. You want to forget it exists. โธป Who This Is Actually For This plan is perfect if: โข Youโre activating a GPS or LTE tracker โข Youโre using an imported or IoT-style device โข You need LTE + 4G fallback โข You want the cheapest functional option that actually works Not ideal if: โข You want to use this as a daily phone SIM โข You need high data usage โข You expect unlimited anything This is a tool, not a lifestyle plan. โธป Pros โข Works with LTE trackers that need fallback support โข Extremely affordable monthly cost โข Easy activation โข Triple-cut SIM fits almost anything โข Reliable connection for low-data devices Cons โข Not suitable for smartphone use โข Limited data (by design) โข No frills or extras โธป Final Thoughts: The SIM That Solved the Problem I went through more effort than I expected trying to activate a cat tracking collar that should have worked out of the box. This SIM is the piece that made everything click. If youโre dealing with a GPS tracker, pet collar, or imported LTE device that refuses to behave, this plan is worth trying before you assume the hardware is broken. Itโs cheap, reliable, and does exactly what itโs supposed to do โ quietly and consistently. Sometimes thatโs the best kind of product.

AVOID SPEEDTALK! THEY WANT TOO MUCH PERSONAL INFO!
This card is very difficult to activate online. I don't know about calling it in but going through the activation process online was an arduous, glitchy task and the SpeedTalk Store website was not very clear, with additional and often convoluted instructions popping up over top of the forms you are attempting to fill out. No exaggeration, it took me FIVE ATTEMPTS before all my information got processed. If it wasn't one thing it was another, including having to have a PIN password sent to my email 3x, and having to input the amazon transation number as proof(??) I was the purchaser! WHY? The process froze several times and when I backed up a screen to fix my input, all the previous information disappeared and I had to input every single field all over again. On top of that they want your life story and practically a DNA sample all just to start up a 1 month no contract quickie account. If you're not paying close attention, when you finally click the final OK, there's a box checked that says yes you want to autopay each month. I was so flustered by the time I got to that point (over an hour of wrestling with what should have been a QUICK, SIMPLE FORM) I hit OK before I realized it. I will probably use this phone for more than a month, but I really despise autopay and now I have to figure out how to turn it off. This is just for a secondary, temporary back-up phone for travel and I don't plan on using it very long. And now I have the added hassle of figuring out how to terminate autopay instead of just not paying for it anymore when I'm done with it. The random phone number that it gave me came with a lot of "baggage." First of all it still has the previous owner's identity attached to it, and I'm getting texts and calls on it from the moment I got it for this other person. Secondly it must already be on a ton of spam lists because I get texts and calls all day long for salons, car warranties, credit card debt relief, etc. which is ANNOYING AF. No exaggeration, I'm blacklisting 5-6 numbers a day. I have gotten T-Mobile no-contract new phone activation & service sim cards for $5-$10 before from other companies, and I never had this much spam garbage with the "new" number before. Nor have I ever gotten a "new" number with the previous user's personal information still attached to it. I'm sure the previous user would love to know that I know their full name and street address. This company is super shady and now they have all my personal info and credit card information, my email, and my amazon purchase info, and they have burdened me with a phone number that is basically a vehicle to incessantly advertise a ton of junk. Nor is this a "fresh" number. In fact I got this cheap phone and new number specifically to communicate ONLY with my husband, and yet it's ringing constantly throughout the day but it's not him. This company is NOT WORTH IT. You're paying $5 to be on a spam list and give them all your personal info. I never had to activate a phone card with a PIN through my email or the transaction number from amazon before! The T-Mobile service is fine, but AVOID SPEEDTALK and get it through another company! Oh yes I forgot to mention that this company offers you one month free if you give them a 5 star review on amazon, take a screenshot of it and send it to them. LOL!! I wonder why they have to try to BUY good reviews?! I don't need your $5, SPEEDTALK. Here's your 1 star review, though. It's actually zero stars if I could rate it that low.

Some things that sound too good to be true are just that
This is NOT the only deal where you buy a SIM and get the same amount in credit once you activate. And some other companies offer even better deals. But that is not a good way to pick a cellular service. Still, I decided to give them a try and my SIM could not be activated. I got an error message that said they would not activate my SIM because I already had several activations using the same credit card. That was not true at all. I have never used SpeedTalk and moreover, I rely on Google Voice and so I don't have ANY activated SIMS. The last time I activated a SIM was with another provider years ago. So, I emailed SpeedTalk who told me that I had several activations and they would therefore I would need to send them -- via unsecure email -- my credit card Information. When I responded that my card was fine and this was the 1st time I ever tried to activate any SIM/number with them, SpeedTalk was quite curt and told me either email credit card info or I could deal with Amazon but that they would quite simply do nothing. That was their response. On the positive side, I got three emails from them in less than 15 minutes. But they were SO unhelpful (i.e., they explicitly refused to do anything or to engage or to explain) and so curt (not precisely rude, just short emails saying, in sum and substance "sucks to be you - not my problem") that even if they had solved the activation issue, I would not ever use SpeedTalk. There are too many other options out there. Heck, most of them you can even buy here on Amazon - which I did not even know until now - I thought if I want to try USMobile or Mint or whoever, I need to contact those companies for a SIM, or to see if I can activate a phone via eSim but most if not all of them sell their SIMS on Amazon seemingly all with deals like free minutes etc. So, I will try someone else and while I am sure some people will be able to use SpeedTalk right away, knowing that they have without a doubt the worst customer service imaginable, why would you?

Perfect Budget Option For a Kid's Phone
This is the second SpeedTalk SIM card we have ordered. We have been very happy with both! -I love, love, love that the card comes with an adjustable SIM card for size. We have some very old phones that take the old fashioned giant SIMS and some new phones that use micros and nanos. These chips will fit them all! I will say, the fit is much better if you choose the correct size the first time, but we have switched the cards between sizes successfully (I wouldn't recommend it). -The service gets comparable coverage and signal to my own TMobile phone. My son happily texts his friends and I can reach him whenever I need to. -The price can't be beat. We pay $5 per month to have cell phone service for my son's phone that is used only in emergencies and for communication when we are apart. -The only times we have had problems with service had to do with the device *not* the SIM card or SpeedTalk service. It took me a long, long time to figure this out. We tried several brands of GPS phone tracking watches for our sons in order to be able to communicate with them and see their location on overnights, camping trips, etc but we didn't want them to have internet and couldn't afford an expensive watch. We have yet to find a satisfactory GPS tracking phone that does not lose signal/offer unreliable connection. *This SIM and Cell service works perfectly when we changed the SIM from the poorly made GPS watches into a different device. The phone/device calls and text with no problems whatsoever. -The service is very reliable. We set up an overage account so that if my son spends his minutes, he won't be without service in case of an emergency, but they have many cheap options for plans from $5, $9, $15 and up. We chose to just pay for overages since he doesn't have access to his phone unless we are apart. -At times, it takes it just a few seconds to connect when placing a phone call, but not long -literally seconds. At times, my TMobile signal is poor at home, so this service is at least as reliable. I have yet to miss a call or text through SpeedTalk, where I do get dopped calls with my regular TMobile service and messages either are dropped or come through weeks later on my prepaid TMobile service. - I was very happy to see that despite the low price, SpeedTalk is supporting 2G - 4G. Our previous devices were 2G, but we are moving to 4G due to the phase-out.

SpeedTalk Mobile (T-Mobile MVNO) $5 Prepaid Wireless Sim Kit
$5 gets you 100 Minutes, 100 Texts and 100MB Data. The service was T-Mobile. This same company offers service from other carriers but not at this price. I found it useful for an emergency phone, which is what I used it for. Great service so long as you are near a tower. 5G speeds are great as well as 4G. No issues there. Comes with the full down to mini-SIM size to fit most devices. Simple to get up and running on my spare phone. I would have given it a better rating if the data wasn't being mishandled. For some reason Speedtalk has this setup so that it uses data even when the phone is off. I turned my phone off, went to sleep, woke up to find it had reported data use while being off. When I contacted customer service, I got a run around and bait and switch tactics instead of a simple replacement of the unused data and an apology. They did stop the data from being trickled out but they did not replace it. It further bothered me that no matter how many times I called or e-mailed I was getting a run around. For $5 it could be a great secondary number, useable for verification or as a burner number but based on customer service and the data issue I had I would not recommend this lower tier plan. At one point they even tried to pass me off to T-Mobile for support. Based on the sheer volume of attempts to get me to upgrade the service, I realized this was more of a demo and a teaser than an actual plan that is sustainable. I verified this when I asked about paying for one more month and they told me I would need to buy another card from Amazon as they did not have $5 tier plans, and I would have to pay $15 plus tax for a 3-month plan to get the $5 a month plan. If you want to buy this and expect to pay $5 a month each month, do not as they do not offer it. You would have to purchase a new card each month. You do not have to change your number or SIM according to customer service, but I could see this getting sticky fast. I have come to realize the lowest you can get a decent cell plan for is $10-$15 depending on what you expect no matter who the carrier is and that a true $5 a month plan for an emergency use phone simply does not exist.
