How many parts to this clock, & how much time does it take to put together?

The clock is fully assembled out of the box. You have to hang the weights and put the "C" size battery in the back of the clock. Getting the cuckoo to sync up with the clock dial, you have to gently push the hands of the clock towards the face of the clock so they become loose and will freely turn. Move the hands to the correct time then gently pull them away from the clock face to lock them onto the shaft.

Can you hear the arm swinging back and forth and are the cockcoo and music loud enought to hear?

You cannot hear the pendulum swing, no. It is perfectly silent. Yes, the cuckoo and music are loud enough to hear just fine if you are in the same room or the next room as the clock. Battery lasts one year before replacement is needed. Great product!
