Which game would you prefer? The original or the Europe version?

We have only played the Germany version yet and love it ( because we are german, haha) . We will get Europe next. They are easy to learn, even for our 8 year old. He needed one test game in which we helped him get to where he needed to go and the next game he played all by himself and with great strategy! Ticket to ride is probably out of all of our games our favorite, and we have MANY games.

Question 2

Does this game actually teach you all the names of countries and capitals of Europe?

Accepted Answer

The countries and cities shown on the map, as well as their borders, are more or less matching the map of Europe before the First World War.  Some current countries are not there at all, and some names of the cities are as they were in 1911, not now.  And yes, the city names are spelled in original language of the country they were in at that time, except ones that would use Cyrillic alphabet (e.g., Moskva {Москва}, Sofia {Со́фия} et al.)  or Greek (Athens=Athína  {Αθήνα})
So you may learn a little about general locations in Europe, but not the current geography.  And to learn some history you would need to use the game only as inspiration to search for and read some history books.

Question 3

Is it possible to play the Europe version with the rules of the US version? (I prefer the simplicity of the US version but prefer the Europe map)

Yes, just don't use the stations and treat the special routes as normal ones.

is this ok to play with 9-10 year old kids? I am more interested in this one but still want to be able to play with kids,or should we do the usa

I play with my 6, 8, and 12 year old.  They all love it.  The 6 year old needs just a little help with the routes, but overall she likes the game more than the other two.  I have never played the USA version.  We were given Europe as a gift!
