Good for strengthening ny poor social skills
I like this book because I'm socially awkward and my parents are rude, alcoholic social outcasts, so this gives me some phrases that show me how to pretend to be normal and say things that aren't too blunt and are more productive. I bought it so I could speak better at work.

How did I ever communicate before this?
This book has come in handy a number of times. I use it before sending flaming emails. I also pull it out before I have crucial conversations with my staff and colleagues. Money well spent! Happy Reading, Erika

The Power of Words.
The tongue is a powerful tool or a dangerous weapon. What sets this book apart from others is how it presents leadership phrases in a range from positive to adversarial. The topics cover a wide range of both professional and personal situations. You still need wisdom and discipline to choose the correct response for your circumstances but this book will give you the verbal ammunition you need.

Bought it used and it was in FABULOUS CONDITION!
I did not want to pay full price. It was $20 at Kinko's. So looked on Amazon and it was $7. Worth the buy! Use is great and used helps the planet. Buy used when you can!

OK, if you haven't been around the block
If you want a guide of what NOT to say, this is a good one. At least it ranks the "What-to-say" lines from less negative to more negative. Most of it places the responsibility on the listener, not the speaker. "If you didn't get that, I'll repeat it." And worse, "I've seen clearer thinking from a kindergartener." In my career as an executive, cordiality and, at the same time, directness is the key. Don't mealy mouth, but don't assault the listener. One of my favorites (which actually is in the book) when presenting an idea or saying almost anything is, "Does that make sense?" Now you're the one who is being validated, not the listener, "What don't you understand about what I just said." This could be a valuable reference for someone just getting started in business, but if you've been in management for a few years and are still there, you've already got this figured out.

Waste of money
I got the managers phrase book too as I was looking to expand my business vocabulary. This book is outright terrible, lots of repeated phrases, overly American, uninspiring, no explanation to support the phrases. I'll be investing in a book about positive communication instead. Both books returned!
