Q: What are they used for?

There used to put paper on and then put in a cricket machine to cut. I use it for scrapbooking. you can use to cut letters or certain embellishments depending on the cricket you have. It only works on the cricket machines

Q: Does it work with scan n cut 2?

Mrs S, From what I am understanding, both mats are 12 x 12. The cricut would not work though because there are registration marks on the Scan and Cut 2, which serve as a guide. There are a lot of people online that have claimed to use many different ways to make it work, but I can not stand by those methods to positively identify if it does work for the brother. Good Luck

Q: Are they sticky on both sides?

Nope! Just one side is sticky providing easy glide through with the machines! There are ways to clean it and keep its stickiness! There are great YouTube DIY cleaners!
