Do you need to put something on the bottom or can you just place it on top of your existing soil?

Really depends on what you’re growing and what your natural yard is like. If your yard is prone to weed growing or if your plants need utmost nutrients and resources, then place a mesh/weed barrier/etc on top of your yard before placing your garden bed down. If your plant requires a lot of root space growing downwards, feel free to disregard liners. If your neighborhood has moles or pests, I recommend a liner as well.

Is the wood treated? What should I line the bed with?

The wood appears untreated - I treated it with Boracare (following instructions on jug and allowing time for absorbtion and drying) I actually just lined the interior with weed guard fabric. So far so good.

How can it be used for patios of it doesn't have the bottom?

I would suggest getting a piece of plywood and cut it to the size of the garden box. Then I would get a tarp and using a staple gun staple it to the plywood. You will have double protection for your patio floor. This is what we plan on doing when ours arrive. The only concern I have is that root rot can happen because the water will not be able to escape.
