Q: Can you add sandbags to hold steady? Like a leaf sled

You never want to fire a rifle locked down to a sled. The rifle needs to dissipate recoil energy by the rifle physically impacting your shoulder. Nit allowing that to happen forces the rifle to absorb all the energy within the stock. This causes connection points to weaken and eventually fail.

Q: Whats the maximum width the clamps open?

They are 2 1/4" at the top of the clamp and 2 3/4" on the inside curved clamp. Please be aware, although the advertising here, and on the box btw, state the clamps and the base are height adjustable, neither of them are. A couple of other reviews mention this as well.

Q: Can you torque the muzzle device or barrel nut without screwing it down?

no i did not like it. tipton is much better
