Not as far as I can tell. There is no bubble in the casing and the needle swings very freely. There is no damping, as you might expect if it was moving through liquid.

This compass as fore as I know does not have a luminous bit on the needle. The Silva 4 Militaire - 6400/360 compass has a luminous bit on the North needle.
