Will it bleed through paper?

No, it won't. Totally good on paper. To me, there is only one complaint, the highlighters are pretty dry, and use up really quick. But functions well.

Can you erase the highlighter with a regular eraser, or do you need to use the attached one?

The answer is "no". The ink of all Frixion pens reacts to the heat. It turns to be transparent when heated over 60℃ (140℉). Usually it uses the friction heat with the attached rubber, however you can erase it by heating by another way such as using hair dryer, putting on the heater and so on. But you cannot erase with a regular eraser.

Are these highlighters textbook-friendly? The papers are thin and glossy.

I bought the non-pastel colored highlighters and they do not stay on my textbook pages. The ink dries and erases with the eraser, but the highlighters also come off of my textbook when I just rub my text book page with my hand. I do not recommend for textbooks.

Are these light highlighters the same as the pastel highlighters?

Yes, these are basically pastel highlighters!
