The Rise and Fall of the Spanish Empire [Maltby, William] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. The Rise and Fall of the Spanish Empire Review: Very concise and informative - I needed a hard source for a research paper I was writing and this book came to the rescue. After I submitted my paper, I read it recreationally. The book is very concise and written in a way that is easy to understand. For those that want a more in-depth exploration of the Spanish Empire, this book will disappoint. However, for what it is and how cheaply it is priced, I give it 5 stars. Review: Good introduction to the history of the Empire - The content of this book is good, comprehensive, though in some places very general -- as a 200-page history of the Spanish Empire will be. An author simply cannot get all the details into such a short space. Maltby's prose is clear and very understandable, and I will use this book for a course on the Spanish Empire in which the students have had little or no exposure to the topic. The one problem that I have with this book has nothing to do with the author but rather with the publisher. The print seems a bit faded on quite a number of the pages, and the maps at the beginning are not printed properly -- it seems as if the ink that should have been used to fill in the maps got smudged on different parts of the pages instead of on the maps themselves. This surprised me since Palgrave typically produces very good books with few publication flaws. Despite that, the book is well worth the purchase for Maltby provides a very good introduction to the history of the Spanish Empire that is useful for students, teachers, and anyone else interested in the topic.

History Buff
This is a great book for the history buff. I got this to write a history paper and it was the best source I found on the topic. Easy to read without extraneous fluff to clutter what you need to know. I'll keep this one to read again just for fun.

Well written brief overview of the Spanish empire and imperial processes that enabled its existence.

It was a concise History of the Spanish Empire. Just enough detail to give a general idea to a History Buff.
