Quite nice
First off, shipped very quickly and was packaged securely. The bottle is nice, very decent size. Smell is wonderful. Warm, slightly spicy, very appetizing. It's a little bit on the spicy side for my mid-western taste buds but it's just so nice of a flavor I'm willing to power through, lol. Planning to use it mostly for stews and curries, things it will cook into. Don't know that it would work as a dry/topping flavor.

There are actually 9 spices in this “5-Spice” blend
A common 5-Spice blend includes these spices: star anise, cloves, cinnamon, Sichuan peppercorns and fennel seeds. It gives a combination of sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and umami. This particular bottle contains star anise, cloves, cinnamon, chili pepper, black pepper, Mac khen pepper (cousin to Sichuan pepper), fennel seed, cardamom, ginger. So this is more like 9-Spice (haha). Despite the “extra” spice, the philosophy behind this blend is still the same. It reflects the ancient Chinese worldview of balance and harmony. This is the Yin and Yang of spices. These spices are often used in marinades and sauces for most types of meat such as chicken, pork belly and beef.

Sealed fresh, good quality, and very aromatic. Have used it on a variety of Asian dishes and they've been good.
