The last pair i bought of Hollister came apart at the seam between the 2 back pockets.. have you heard of this happening before?

I don't know anything about Hollister but I have been wearing Levi's since I was a kid and I've never had anything like that happen with a pair of Levi's. 517"s is about all I wear because I am a boot man. Black 517's are getting hard to find.

Should i order jeans a little longer for wearing boots. i usually wear a 31x32. the 517 jeans shrink a bit correct? going to order the 32x34

No in the short answer. I have washed these jeans twice and they have not shrunk yet. I wear a 32X31 and I got a 32X32 thinking they would shrink. Now I have to get them altered. Go with what fits

If I wear a 40x32, what size in this pant would I need to order?

The jeans can be ordered according to your size. I might add that this particular style, 517, the legs is same fit from inseam to hem. They aren't tapered at all. I would suggest a different style for anyone who likes their Jean's tapered at the ankles or those who need more room in their inseam because of thicker thighs or of an athletic build.

do they have 7 belt loops

Actually, I have recently bought three pair of 29x34 and all had only five belt loops. All previous 517s in larger waist sizes from 2010 to 2020 have had seven belt loops.
