I would advise you not to get this one. The author is mostly quoting Col. Corbett's books. At least he comes out and admits it frankly. Buy the real Corbett instead.I also didn't appreciate the author's trying to get into Col. Corbett's head by speculating on why he never married and always lived with his sister Maggie. The guy is long dead and buried. He was a great hunter and did enormous service to India in his day, and very modest and self-effacing, to boot.. India's first National Park is named in his honor. Please respect him and let him rest in peace, for God's sake.

No New Information Here
Almost everything (99%) told about Jim Corbett in this biography can be learned from reading Corbett's books. However, it does put all of that information in one place for easier reference.

Corbett Bio
This short biography of Jim Corbett belongs on the shelf of every Corbett fan. D.C. Kala, an admitted admirer of Corbett, wrote this book in the 1970s. There is material here which fills some of the gaps left by Corbett's own writing. Topics include his family background, childhood, hunting, writing, work and military service, wildlife photography and his move to Kenya.

A good start
The biography admits in the first few pages that his work is incomplete but may make a good basis for a future writer to start a longer biography of teh legendary Jim Corbett. He is exactly right. This book answered the very basic questions of Corbett's biography but did not provide much more information than could be gleaned from reading his 6 books of fantastically written hunting tales. For example we never find out in this book why he is known far and wide as "Carpet Sahib" although the book uses the term frequently. I'm still wondering....It did contain new information for me about Corbett's life in Africa which I had not heard and which is not covered much even in "Tree Tops" which was his last book and took place there.

If like me you like to read about times when Tigers were plentiful in India you will love Jim Corbett, he tells the most wonderful stories, some are very tragic but you must remember all the lives he saved at risk of his own life. He became a legend even having a national park named after him. WONDERFUL STUFF. Len B.

OK If you haven't read Corbett
This book seems to be mostly made up from Corbett's own writing with a few extras thrown in. It is not compelling reading but nice to find out just that little bit more.
