Truly Authentic Ingredients-Tastes Like Home
I live in the US and there arenโt any Ethiopian places within an hour of my location. I have been picking up berbere blends wherever I could find them-World Market, Amazon-you name it. Unfortunately, none of them had the color or flavor that I was used to in Ethiopian cuisine. I tried looking for the authentic spices to make my own blend, but had no luck. After years of searching, I finally stumbled upon this brand. I was happy to see that it is Ethiopian owned and operated. I was going to buy all the herbs and spices separately, but then I saw this company makes a Berbere blend also! I couldnโt find an ingredient list online, so I took a chance on purchasing, and am glad I did! The heat from this berbere is warming yet palatable (not โmaking you sweatโ hot, which some of us Ethiopian and heat lovers may be used to lol). The blend is fragrant and has chili, cardamom, basil and others herbs and spices that are native to Ethiopia-something that has been lacking in other โauthenticโ blends that Iโve paid more for. I bought the 2 oz container, which was generously packed to the brim, and am wondering how long this last me. The larger bag is already calling my name haha. Thank you for creating this brand and its mission. It helps people like me who donโt have easy access to our cultural items, and those who are interested in Ethiopian culture/cuisine to try it from the comfort of their home!

If Marcus Samuelsson Uses It, It Has to Be Delicious
I was watching an episode of Ina Garten's show "Be My Guest" with Marcus Samuelsson as her guest. As I watched him prepare the dish he was making for Ina, he used a spice blend that he referred to a Berbere. He said Berbere was an essential ingredient in North African cuisine and that, like curry powder, each kitchen had its own blend. He used a jarred Berbere but the camera did not show the name of the brand. I captured the photo of the part they did show and then went in search of it on Amazon, where it seems one can find all manner of unusual spices. I was able to recognize the label and it turned out to be this Brundo brand. Because Fetelwork Tefferi, chef-owner of Cafe Colucchi in Oakland, CA, couldn't source what she needed in America, she established a production facility in Ethiopia that produces the Berbere blend she uses in the restaurant and markets. The bottle I ordered arrived today, so I haven't been able to use it in any dishes yet. Per Samuelsson, he uses it in "everything," so I am thinking I can use it in my breakfast scrambled eggs, chili, meatloaf, etc. I tasted a bit of the raw power on my finger. Even raw, I can tell it's going to add a special something to the dishes I try it in. Can't wait to try it out.
