A much-anticipated update to the classic personal road map, full of strategies to understand, manage, and conquer your stress. Do you feel a tightness in your chest and a racing heart anytime you have to speak up for yourself, whether in a large group or small? Does the very idea that others could perceive you as looking uncomfortable or frightened make those symptoms even worse? Do you vigilantly avoid potential panic triggers, and always think the worst is bound to happen? If so, you may be one of the 40 million Americans who suffer from anxiety. Symptoms run the gamut from mildly embarrassing but tolerable to persistent and debilitating. While feelings of worry, dread, panic, social unease, and general anxiety are common, their impact is insidious, leaving sufferers feeling worn out and often hopeless. This book is your answer. Drawing on fresh insights into the anatomy of the anxious brain, Dr. Wehrenberg gets to the biologically based heart of the problem and offers readers practical, effective tips to manage their anxiety on a day-to-day basis. From diaphragmatic breathing and self-talk, to mindfulness, muscle relaxation, and "plan to panic" strategies, you can learn to train your brain, conquer your stress and anxiety, and regain control of your life. Review: Very helpful! - Lots of great ideas that actually helped. Review: Outsanding Resource - Whenever I read a book, I immediately note if it is engaging me enough to continue reading past the first few chapters. In “The 10 Best-Ever Anxiety Management Techniques”, Margaret Wehrenberg does an excellent job of just that. The first chapter lays the ground work for a basic understanding of the “why and how,” which in turn peaked my interest to continue reading chapter after chapter. After reading the entire book, I feel much more equipped to handle periodic episodes of anxiety. . . and to share these techniques with others. This will be one of my “go to” resources in the future, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to educate themselves for personal use – or to help others.

Best for a review of CBT rather then a beginners guide.
Overall this is a decent CBT book. It has more emphasis on the neurobiology of anxiety disorders then many similar books which some readers might find helpful or interesting, but that may just annoy others that have no interest in the subject. I didn’t feel this was the best book for someone with no previous CBT experience and would recommend it as a refresher for individuals that have had some exposure previously. It is somewhere between the handholding, take baby steps approach and the bare clinical, you are on your own now that I have explained things to you, good luck type of book. Similarly it gives a few examples of various techniques such as muscle relaxation, meditation, thought changing, etc. without going into extensive detail or giving so many examples that the reader gets lost or confused. There are chapters that could have been more succinct, but generally the author gets to the point without too much extraneous discussion. There is nothing earth shattering in the book, but it overall covered some good usable techniques and is not a clone of many of the CBT books out there that are almost interchangeable. It really isn’t a workbook and for those that do better with worksheets and assignments this may not be the best choice. Emphasis is on generalized anxiety and social anxiety disorder. No real discussion of PTSD, major depression, or other disorders. There is no “perfect book” book for everyone and different individuals will benefit for different approaches I was again left with the impression that this book is somewhere between the complete beginner and the more clinical books. It provided a decent review and offered up a few new observations and techniques.

Powerful book on the biology and treatment of anxiety disorders ...
Powerful book on the biology and treatment of anxiety disorders. This profound book should be given to all sufferers of that disability as there are techniques to help everyone. A long read but well worth it. Take notes too and practice!

I recommend this to all my patients
This is one of three books that I regularly recommend to new patients who come in with symptoms of anxiety. It's a great resource, both as a stand alone book and as a companion to therapy.

Excellent Professional Purchase
I bought this to help my clients cope with their anxiety, which in turn can, hopefully, help them get more out of our sessions. That it helps me personally, as well, is a bonus.

very stupid and useless
Seriously this book has absolutely nothing new to bring to the reader and nothing useful either ... its the same old bs you'll find in anyone of the 1000's books written about stress that tell you ; you have a "chemical imbalance" and you should "breath" and "consult a therapist" Very disappointing and pretty frustrating ... 10 techniques my ass ... It's in fact one or two stupid relax and breath advice at most... and it's nothing to be impressed with ... Not worth looking quickly through the pages for more than 10 minutes and putting it back in the shelf of the library store. Do not buy if you really need help this is not it at all.
