Kizer Militaw Fixed Blade Knife, Nitro-V Blade Camping Knife, 1067A2

I've been watching these knives forever waiting on a good sale, and when it finally happened recently, I couldn't pass them up. The Nitro-V version has been steady at 69 bones for quite a while with temporary dips down to 59. The S35VN version is generally 157, and I'm not sure that I've ever seen that one on sale at all. When I saw the Nitro-V version for 41, I had to pull the trigger. I have not been disappointed. The full tang blade came shaving sharp, but with a little time on the strop, she's a screamer. Cutting regular paper indicates sharpness, but this thing shreds catalog paper effortlessly, which is an indication of extreme sharpness. The finish on the blade is a nice and even stonewash, and looks good. It comes with 2 rows of jimping and that coupled with an ample finger choil offers the ability to get down tight on the tip, and it also has jimping on the butt end (pommel area). The jimping could be a bit more aggressive IMO, but it's fine. The micarta inlaid G10 handle is on the smallish side, but it's grippy and comfortable and offers just enough real estate to get all 4 fingers on there confidently (L-XL). I do wish the handle was a bit thicker though, but it's fine. The sheath offers heavy retention and absolutely no rattle. I couldn't imagine anyone being able to shake these knives out, at least not the ones I got. The Tek-Lok style belt attachment is okay, but not the best. After moving the spacers around to accommodate my thick 1.5" EDC belt, there is a little play on the belt of which I'm not really a fan. A lock would be nice, too. I'll probably end up putting a different belt attachment or a 3.3 UltiClip on there. I was so pleased with the Nitro-V version that when I noticed the S35VN version for 94, I went ahead and pulled the trigger as that is one of my favorite knife steels. Honestly, I had never even considered this version because at 157, it seemed overpriced to me, but at 94 it was more in line with my perceived value. I have not been disappointed in it either. With the S35VN version, everything is about the same, but the jimping seems better than the Nitro-V version and is a bit more aggressive. The aluminum/fat carbon scales are nice and feel premium, although I do prefer the micarta inlaid G10. I might end up swapping them. I ended up putting scout straps on this one that can be used for either knife. Overall, I'm very pleased with both purchases and would highly recommend either for anyone in the market for this size/type of blade, particularly if you can catch them at these prices.

The knife itself is awesome. Well built, good looking and sharp. The sheath is way too tight. I have to pull very hard to get it out.

This is one of my favorite knives now. The size is perfect at 8 inches. Maybe 8 1/8th inch long to be exact. It’s a bit longer than the average small necklace type EDC fixed blades. And smaller than your average belt carry knife. It’s just that perfect in-between size that fits almost every adult’s hand. Handle is about 4 1/4” long and the blade is razor sharp out the box. Great steel with the Nitro V. The look and shape is the traditional “look” that all great knives have. G10 grips with Micarta inserts gives it a classic new style too. Full tang! What’s not to love about this knife? Again it’s the perfect in-between size that makes it great for daily use without being too long to be uncomfortable for daily carry. Feels great in the hand and the craftsmanship is top notch. I’m wondering if it will be able to strike a ferro spark as the blade edges are like micro smoothed, if that’s important for you. But I carry a lighter when I’m in the woods. I don’t have to be Grizzly Adam’s when I trek outside…anyway, if you’re not pleased as I am with it, you, you, you…what’s the word? It has jimping in two parts of the blade and no hot spots. It’s not heavy but it has enough weight to let you know you have a sturdy knife in your hands. It’s really just the perfect size for carry and I cannot stress that enough. I feel like a kid on Christmas morning again! I will be buying some more as gifts for my family and friends. The sheath is a taco style Kydex with a very positive click and has a smooth thumb push off to unholster it. It has a water drainage hole too. The belt attachment is the only flaw on the sheath. When it snaps closed, there is no lock to the “open” button so there is the possibility for it to be accidentally unlocked. I’ll buy a better belt clasp or even an Ulticlip for it. The belt clasp size is just a tad short for a 1 1/2” belt so I had to pull one of the size tabs out and move it to get it fit my belt. Not a problem. Highly recommended!

This is a perfect knife for everyday carry. It's an overall light and concealable knife that you can keep on you. It has multiple jimping points which aid in providing a good solid grip. The canvas really helps in locking in the blade. Once you've got a grip it isn't going any place! My version has nitro v which is tough and corrosion resistant which helps if you're in a hot, damp environment. The blade came with a toothy sharpening job from the factory(which is easy to polish up) but at that it still sliced paper razor thin and shaved arm hair like it was nothing. The overall aesthetic of the knife is very appealing as well. I'd like a solid black version but I hear the canvas point will possibly be interchangeable in the future. I personally prefer all black blades and handles. The design of the knife blade and handle lend it to everyday cutting tasks, kitchen duty, possible self defense and light camp tasks. The gimping near the tip of the blade will aid in precise cutting tasks. Overall it's a really nice knife and especially for the money. This is an absolute home run! If I had any complaint it would be that I prefer a guard/finger choil for forward slicing tasks. However, even with wet hands I don't imagine your hand moving much if at all. The sheath is well thought out and secure. You can easily change out for different style clip which I changed out for a J clip and a ranger band to keep secure in the waistband. I like the thumb push off point and a mark of a well designed sheath. Sheaths are just as important the knife is. This one is very minimal and allows for multiple carry styles. Lastly, someone else docked a star for the packaging which is very silly. Any knife collector/user knows that these companies always put in stickers or merch. Honestly who even cares about packaging which you throw away. I paid for my knife and received nothing free. I did, however, order a second knife in D2. I'll update if that one is unlike this first one but I expect it to be of the same quality. Kizer is a well known and quality company and I've often enjoyed their designs. For the material quality and price you certainly get ABOVE what you pay for.

I wont be saying anything new or different than everyone else already has said, im just adding my voice to the chorus. This knife feels exceptional. Mine arrived laser sharp. And it fits my hand really well. I love the finger choil on this knife even though i dont usually like them. In this case it is very helpful for clocking the knife when drawing and replacing from the sheath. Theres a little horn on the sheath that is easily gripped with the thumb to push or pull on. With my finger in the choil and my thumb on the horn of the sheath its easy to pull and re-sheath it without really looking, just going by feel. And somehow, it seems that all the sheaths that ive gotten from Kizer always have just enough tension and grip to retain the knife without making it dangerously difficult to draw. I can grip the knife with 2 fingers and use my thumb to remove the knife and to snap it back into the sheath. And let me just add that the blade shape is really useful for all of the utility purposes that i bought this knife for. Plenty of straight blade edge length for slicing and typical cutting, as well as a minimal clip point style tip for penetration and puncturing. If im looking for something to complain about on this knife, id say that i dont really like the (purely aesthetic) choice to use exposed fasteners to secure the handle scales. But i feel pretty silly complaining about that. It really doesnt have any effect on the use of or feel of the knife. Like i said, i was searching for something to complain about and thats all i could come up with. I wouldnt mind if the blade was longer by 1/2 to 1 in. But thats just because the folding pocket knife that i typically edc (also a Kizer) has a blade of nearly exactly the same length. I cant think of any reasons why i would need a second one of these, but if i come up with a reason, id definitely order another one!

Good price, good heat treat, and good factory edge. Not a big fan on the handle design though or the screw lugs it uses though.

Ended up buying this on a whim when it was on sale and love, Kizer is a quality knife, have plenty from them, size is good and looks great, just had to strop it to get the edge right, also like the sheath it comes with.
