Superb watch with a child's strap
I purchased this G-Shock model for three primary reasons: 1) atomic timekeeping, 2) solar charging, and 3) readability. I have found over the years of owning G-Shocks that these are the three most important features to me. Atomic timekeeping means that this is a "set and forget it" timepiece. Solar charging means that I never have to open the watch to replace a battery, keeping it water-tight for the life of the watch. Finally, have you ever noticed how "busy" and crowded some of the G-Shock watch faces are? In some cases, it makes it really difficult for older (not ancient, mind you!) eyes to read the time at a quick glance. This model is a basic, no-nonsense EDC. It doesn't have an altimeter, heart rate monitor, GPS, thermometer, or whatever. The watch I wear doesn't really need those things because I think there are better specialized tools for those jobs anyway. It does have the tools I do need in a watch though like a stopwatch, timer, alarm, day/date, back lighting, military time display, and world time. If you need more in terms of lap timers for swimming and fitness training activities, there may be better options for that. Otherwise, this is a tremendous watch. The atomic function works flawlessly. It actually works while on my wrist. I was up late gaming with one of my sons and I noticed that it was setting the time while I was playing on the PS4! My atomic watches in the past were much more finicky. Those things had to be placed in a particular spot in the house, pointing in a particular direction, the voodoo witch doctor had to shake a chicken foot over it, and then maybe it would pick up the signal. Not anymore! When I received the watch from Amazon, it was completely dead with no charge at all. It appeared to have come directly from the manufacturer and had not been out on display or anything like that. It took a couple of days (it's winter time and cloudy up north right now), but now it's good and charged up. Be advised that it can take a little time to get charged to the "High" level, but once there, these watches tend to hold the charge for a long time with the power save feature active. Give it a good bit of sunshine once every few months and you'll never have a problem. The readability on this watch is excellent. Casio did a nice job of keeping the view uncluttered. Many of the G-Shocks suffer from lots of "stuff" on their faces. The older models suffer from the three-eye syndrome that shrinks the size of the useful information you want to see in lieu of useless little circles that nobody needs or cares about. This watch increases the size of the useful information and uses a white background to increase readability. The obvious thing about this watch, of course, is that it's a G-Shock. It is essentially the toughest mass produced watch in the world. Good luck killing it in the normal course of everyday wear. Among other things, I like to go snorkeling and skin diving on vacation, so this will be going with me for those activities with no worries. If these are good enough for Navy SEALS and law enforcement personnel, they're probably good enough for the rest of us. Go ahead and beat it up. It laughs at you for trying to take it down! I do have one small gripe about the watch, more specifically about the strap. Why does Casio insist on producing the world's toughest ADULT watch and then slap a child-sized strap on the thing? I am an averaged-sized, athletic male (6' 2", 230 lbs.). I have to wear the watch right at the end of the band, so it just barely fits. To be honest, I wish there were just a little more band poking through the holder. I worry about losing it. In short, the band could be longer and more robust. All in all, this is a great watch. Get it, charge it up with some intense sunlight, get it set up (it's easy to do, just read the instructions), and you're good to go.

One of the best timekeepers I've ever had!
I bought this watch in Feb 2017, so it is nearing 9 years with me as of the writing of this review. Not much to add from what others have said here. It is kind of a Goldilocks of watches really; rugged, easy-read display, comfortable, water resistant, solar, atomic time keeping. After all of this it is affordable too? I have a hand me down Apple watch from my kiddo, and like this Casio better! The only complaint I have is that one of the retaining bands (it comes with 2) used to hold the strap slack in place gave out on me and the other is very worn. Replacement straps are not easy to find even on Amazon, and the authentic "Casio" replacement has few reviews and many are negative. I still give it five stars because I'm a fan of the company and because they have corrected this issue with most of their releases over the last decade.

Best watch ever for the price point
I got this as a special request for my son who is thrilled with this watch. He is impressed with all its features and exact atomic time keeping. He likes that itโs easy to take care of and durable as well. He doesnโt have to worry about being overly careful with it. He likes the appearance of the watch and says it helps him manage his time better. Itโs a win win and Iโm a great gift giver! Go mom!

Great sport watch for the price
2 yr update: still love the watch. No problems with it. Solar charging works fine, it is pretty much always shows full charge. I sync time manually every quarter and sync to Ft. Collins (I am on the Gulf Coast) at bedtime. I leave it on my patio table when doing so. It keeps accurate time in between. I clean it gently with a toothbrush, soap and water. Still looks great and is holding up well, I have worn it about 3 days a week, and when I go outdoors to recreate. Great watch for the price. Lots of features. Water resistant to 200m. Numerals on the face are easy to read. The watch will automatically update the time nightly, the extent to which it is successful depends upon you putting it in a place where it's radio can receive the time signal. Since modern watches are very accurate anyway, I configured the watch to update manually, this will conserve the solar charged battery. I update the time monthly. I am a big fan of solar watches, I don't like changing or disposing of watch batteries, I have an early solar watch, a 1997 Pulsar, it runs flawlessly 21 years later. I now have three solar powered watches, one for every occasion (sport, dress, and business casual). Good to go.

Always love my G-Shock
I have had the Riseman G-Shock watch for a around 13 years and it's still running strong and I've never had to replace the rechargeable solar battery or any electronic part of the watch. I did replace the band a few years back but that's to be expected for what I've put it through......or for anything in general over time. My son, soon to be 11, finally decided he just had to have my Riseman because it has all the features he seems to think he must have...LOL. Since they don't make the Riseman anymore and for the fact that I no longer really need the barometer/altimeter and other fancy "gadgets" the Riseman offers I wanted to find another G-Shock that has solar rechargeable battery, multi band 6, date/day/time display in a LCD format.....and didn't cost as much as the Riseman cost me back in the day (close to $300). I did a lot of research before buying this watch. I thought I had found it from another vendor (seemed to be the same model number) at a lower price and was about to buy it when I decided to make 100% certain it was the EXACT same model. Glad I did. The cheaper version did not have the multi band 6 option, although both watches looked identical until you look really close and this version has the verbiage "Multi Band 6" at the top. Found this via a YouTuber.....glad I didn't make the mistake of assuming the other version was the same. Although I could have bought my son this watch and kept my Riseman......he was adamant about 2 things.....he really wanted it because I had worn it for all these years even before he was born and it has sentimental value to him......and since he's on a mountain climbing team he really likes having the barometer and other features the Riseman offers for climbs in the mountains. This watch charged up easily, keeps time perfectly and seems to pick up the time signal updates during the night 98 percent of the time. I kinda miss my double band over this single lock band.....but I'll get used to that over time. I like how Casio has changed the backs of their G-Shocks to have a fully enclosed back, as my Riseman only has the rubber facing around the watch "brains" (for a lack of verbiage) so I have always used a flat nail file about every month to scrap around under the rubber flap to get the "gunk" out that has built up over time. Interestingly I paid around $83 for this watch but then within a day it had jumped up to the $129 range.....things that make you go hmmmmmmm. I guess the show "The Social Dilemma" on Netflix makes a good point about how "they", whomever "they" are, are tracking all of us. For the women that are thinking this watch may look a bit too "manly" for you......I'm a 57 year old lady that could care less what others think as long as something makes my life easier and is exactly what I want and suits my needs. Over the past 13 years while wearing the Riseman, which is a little bit bigger overall than this version, I have gotten several compliments on how cool the watch looks....and I have worn it with business attire as well as jeans and a Tshirt......so if the features match your needs don't hesitate to buy this watch....even at the higher price.....it will serve anyone well for decades to come.....and without having to change out the battery....EVER!

Great watch.
I bought this watch after extensive research, comparing different models. This watch has stopwatch, countdown timer, world time, atomic time and it is 200m water resistant and solar powered. When I received this watch the power indicator was on MED level, I exposed it to a strong sunlight, after a few minutes it went to HIGH level and then in about 5 minutes back to MED and its been there since. After that I exposed the watch to artificial light only. The atomic function works fine only by the window showing L3 signal strength which is the max level. I synced it in manual mode. At night for some reason it didnt sinc. only had this watch for two days now. I am happy with the watch except for the alarm signal volume. Sometimes you cant hear it at all if there is a background noise. The screen is large enough but the numbers are a bit small, the EL illumination is not as bright but you can see all info on the screen in the dark with no problem. The good feature is that the world time is showing in the same screen with the city code for that time zone, so you always know the time in both cities without toggling between the screens. It is easy to use, controls are all intuitive especially for someone who owned any kind of a digital watch before. It doesnt look bulky on small wrists either. I gave it 4 star rating only because of its weak alarm volume. This watch has several alarms that can be set up at different times. But the weak sound makes it impossible to use this function at all unless you are in a perfectly quiet room and the watch is not covered by your sleeve. UPDATE: A month of having this watch. It syncs all the time automatically at night usually at 12:04am or 3:04am if I place the watch by the window. Having alarm and not being able to use it due to its weak sound is very annoing but I guess it should be expected since the watch is waterproof so sound can't be loud though it. UPDATE: After almost a year of wearing this watch I can add to my review that the signal is not that loud but to my surprise I got used to the sound, I mean to distinguish it from other sounds so that I can hear it in situations where external noise was high enough and at first I'd never thought I would have heard it. The light meter indicator never went down, stayed on HIGH level, the only problem is that as other reviewers mentioned this watch has alot of places where dirt and dust, lint can get stuck, so have to wash it with warm soupy water and it is like brand new again. The update is tricky but never failed when placed as instructed in the manual facing the window. Just wanted to mention for some who may be concerned. someone also mentioned here that there is lots of places where dirt and dust can get on the surface of the watch. it is true...after a while it does gets kind a dusty in those places so you would need to wash it thouroghly with a soupy water, or like someone here suggested through it into the dishwasher...I never did that but I am sure the watch will withstand this as well. UPDATE 02/27/2016 I took this watch with me to all possible vacations, it has seen salty waters etc. I played volleyball on the beach and never took my watch off my wrist. it is going strong, I love it, accurate and solar power is the best after 4 years all I had to do is to ensure that the watch gets enough sunlight at least 5 min per day. I changed my rating from 4 star to 5 and Good watch to Great watch. I only wish the alarm to be louder.

Lives up to the reputation
The G Shock line has been widely known as the toughest, most durable watches made for over 40 years now. That reputation is not lost on this one. Great offering with some really nice features. Was looking for something that would be a no nonsense, low maintenance style watch that is always ready to go. Something in contrast to my mechanical watches that need far more attention. This G Shock has fit the bill perfectly. The tough solar feature means never having to worry about a dead battery and the multiband 6 feature means this watch will always tell perfect time without any help from me. On top of that, you get a calendar, multiple alarms, stopwatch, world timezones and countdown timer. Not to mention the usual durable G Shock resin case that can take a beating, plus 200 meters of water resistance. Great watch, exactly what I was looking for and an amazing value at the current pricepoint.

Impressive right out of the box
How impressed am I with my new Casio G-Shock? It was shipped at the same time the polar vortex was due to hit our area of northeastern North Dakota. It came from Minnesota on a Tuesday and was supposed to be delivered on Wednesday when temperatures were at their lowest. Because of the weather, USPS decided to delay delivery of the watch. It was put in my outside mailbox on Thursday when the air temperature was still hovering around -20. Noting that the G-Shock came in a flimsy cardboard box and was shipped in a bubble envelope, I opened the package fully expecting to find a non-functioning (and possibly dead) watch as a result of its long exposure to extremely cold temperatures. Much to my surprise, the G-Shock was not only displaying the time accurately, but it also showed a full charge. I was impressed! After letting the watch warm up, I strapped it on and switched it to the correct time zone. I compared the time to another digital atomic clock in the house and found that it matched exactly โ second for second. There was no better way to say, โIโm a G-Shock, dammit!โ I bought this watch because I wanted something I could wear while working in the yard or around the house without having to worry about it getting dirty or wet. I wanted a less expensive watch that could take a beating. I wanted same the convenience of solar-charged batteries that I have with my Citizen Eco Drive watches. I wanted the accuracy of automatic atomic clock synchronization. I wanted a comfortable watch that didnโt scream, โIโm a G-Shock! Look at me!โ And thatโs what I got with the Casio G-Shock GW2310-1. This model smaller and more understated than many other G-Shocks. I like that. I may never use the stopwatch or the countdown timer or some of the other features of this watch, but if first impressions mean anything, Iโm going to be wearing and enjoying the G-Shock for a long, long time.

Good watch with a couple minor personal issues
Good value for the money for a G-SHOCK. Full Screen Back Light is AWESOME! Size of the time could be a bit bigger for us older people with less than perfect eyes. Strap could be a few holes longer :) I have an 8" wrist and using the second to the last adjustment hole. Very accurate. Fairly easy to set time if people follow the manual :) Love the solar charging and Atomic timekeeping. Sync work very well from Fort Collins.

Very accurate time keeping, solar charge, tough.
Took a lot of time searching for the best watch for me. I was looking for style, battery life, robustness, and most importantly accuracy. This watch does all of that. Ordered from USA and it was delivered over a month earlier than originally anticipated. Excellent so far.
