Word Power Made Easy

Will make you appear to be a genius.
I read this book in high school in the '60's and very soon, I was impressing the teachers with a newfound vocabulary. If you need to impress someone with words they don't know get this vocabulary book and study. It's the easiest way to learn new words and be able to remember them. Also, you'll impress smarter people than you even if you're a little slow on the uptake!

It was easy to to see the Greek and Latin affects on words. Having planned lessons is most helpful to concentration and taking action to complete a lesson. One has a sense of accomplishment. This is a help when choosing more challenging books to read. Hopefully you will write anotherbook in similar format and additional words to learn.

Genuinely pleased ...
I can see the virtues of this text after even a cursory examination. It was recommended to me by a family member and scholar who felt it would benefit my graduate work. I concur. I am very happy with this addition to my scholarly library. It arrived in a timely fashion also. Must go, have a deadline to meet.Phyllis A. Lodge

Helpful, but Outdated
The book is helpful. I like that it's more than a list of words, definitions, and exercises. It also includes other information on etymology and grammatical principles. However, this book was initially published in 1949, and it seems like various parts of the book have not been updated to reflect current notions of society. For example, it is now widely accepted that both introverts and extroverts are equally "normal," but this book defines the most normal people as "ambiverts." Additionally, the opposite of a "male" is not necessarily a "female" (and, as a legal professional, I take issue with a lot of the other opposites--e.g. "working" is the opposite of "idle," instead of "not working"--but I get it, and I can let that go). For someone somewhat familiar with the words, this might not be a problem. For the unfamiliar, I would be wary of learning outdated concepts or definitions.
