Recruiting 101: The Fundamentals of Being a Great Recruiter

Brand new recruiters should read this book! Veteran Recruiters- not worth your time.
I am a Sr. Recruiter of over 15 years and am always buying new books to keep up with the times and drive my professional development. This book is an amazing resource for new recruiters. It covers a myriad of topics to include; intake meetings, working with hiring managers, cold calling, and many others. The information provided is at a very high level and is great for someone that wants to learn the basics. However, the book never truly takes a deep dive into any of it's topics so it's not a good resource for anyone that already has some recruiting time under their belt (hence the "101"). If I was judging how much I learned from this book I would rate it 0 stars. However, I know this book is intended for absolute beginners and for them it should be a must read. In the future if I hire a new recruiter with no experience to join my team their first assignment will be to read this book!

Real mediocre.
I didn’t think this book was very good. I did finish it, but was on the fence a couple of times. It’s really more like a genericized version of a recruiter training manual for a specific organization, a large organization, that needs to turn a lot candidates. I was really hoping for more about identifying the best candidates but was left with the used car salesman feeling that it’s all about warm bodies in large quantities: Selling mediocre candidates to mediocre hiring managers then back-selling the candidate on a mediocre position at a company where turnover is unimportant, as quickly as possible. Interviewing was barely 6 pages and there was really nothing on evaluating a resume or even a LinkedIn profile. (And the sections on finding contact info and cold calling verged on creepy, but I guess you do what ya gotta do.)That said there are some good things in here, like intake meetings. A lot of it is basic but that’s often times the things that are easy to forget. I intend to make checklists of the relevant things; I think that will be helpful. Finally, it does appear to be self-published, which I have nothing against. But it is lacking the polish that most publishers bring to the table. There are some typos, grammatical issues, and odd word choices. If those things annoy you, be forewarned.

Great Read and Highly Recommended.
This is a great book for anyone who is in Recruiting or is new to the industry. I look reading this book as it is a wealth of Knowledge and I would even recommend that a training in organization in recruiting should be done solely on this book. A great read and I don't regret the purchase.

Great book if you're a software engineer getting into recruiting
As a senior software engineer looking to start my own technical recruiting agency, I found this book to be very helpful. I observed many tactics over the years from recruiters and let's just say that they're not very ethical, this book teaches you how to become a good recruiter. Invest in relationships on both sides of aisle. When a candidate goes back on the job market years later, I want to be the first person they think about.

you'll be better off having read this book
This is a practical, plain English primer, which I found to be a helpful introduction to the executive recruiting profession. Mostyn explains the fundamentals of the recruiting landscape and the challenges facing a new recruiter. If you are brand new, you'll be better off having read this book. One can take a professional approach to every career, job, or vocation. This book will help any new recruiter take a professional approach to executive recruiting from Day One. Finally, Mostyn's invitation to contact him is genuine.
