It depends on what setting you put it on. You raise or lower the handle yourself. I absolutely loved mine! ! ! ! !

Will these work for someone 4' 11" who is 180# or should I go down to the child size?

No, they would not get that short. They come in a box that is already about 5"4 and that's as short as they get. I also returned mine, they are heavy, uncomfortable hard to walk with, the knee peg hurts. The bottem of them are very wide and easy to step on. I would agree if you are 4'11 and want these go with the pediatric ones ...
