Tales of Majipoor

"Tales of Majipoor" est le dernier recueil d'histoires consacré Majippor, la planète géante. Les histoires se suivent sans se ressembler. on y retrouve des personnages familiers, d'autres plus lointains, mais la magie de Silverberg est toujours là. Que ce soit dans les forêts, en compagnie des métamorphs ou dans les villes, le merveilleux est tapi derrière une rencontre, un philtre d'amour, une découverte archéologique ou une nouvelle religion. Une fois le livre terminé, le lecteur n'a qu'une seul envie : retrouver Valentin et sa troupe de saltimbanques, Stiamot, Prestimion et les autres pontifes.

I always loved Tales Of Majpoor, much more than the associated Valentine books. Here are some more tales from Majpoor, that beautifully described if not always logical world. The stories interconnect over thousands of years. I was happy to revisit Majpoor, there won't be any more.

I have fond memories of Silverberg's other Majipoor books. This one uses the same great setting, but for most of the book, the characters are just ciphers: they seem to have no consistent personality, and their thoughts and actions seem almost arbitrary. The last story is the longest, and the only one that features Valentine and his friends - it can't be a coincidence that suddenly the writing comes to life.

Five stars and then some! Like new, fast shipping and great price! Fills the last hole in my Majipoor collection!

Hard to believe Silverberg wrote such a lightweight collection of FANTASY--and mediocre fantasy at that. This is NOT science fiction. And it is written to about an 8th-grade level. I pushed through a couple pages, then skimmed ahead to see if things got any better. Nope. Not gonna waste my time on this.
