Use This -- Don't Use the Tablets
I have a LaMotte ColorQ 7 pool/spa test kit. When I bought it I had some serious difficulty in getting accurate reading for some tests. I had purchased the kit that uses tablets. These tablets have to be crushed and dissolved completely and then the test vial inverted several times to ensure no bubbles and complete dissolving of the tablet. I now believe that the major source of the difficulty was in using the tablets ... even though I followed the LaMotte protocol for tablets. I even cleaned the device used to crush the tablets between each test. I ultimately decided to try the liquid reagents. When I did, I found out that I obtained much more accurate and reliable results with the liquid reagent. I did this by testing a sample of spa water with both the tablets. I also tested both methods using a sample of water for which I knew the results ahead of time. In short, the LaMotte ColorQ 7 works well (it is much more accurate and informative than some of the test strips) BUT I recommend using it with the liquid reagent and not the tablets. And, by the way, the liquid reagent method is much easier and faster to use.

Buy this once a year if you use Color-Q Pro-7
This is the refill for the LaMotte 2056 ColorQ Pro 7 Digital Pool Water Test Kit . Look for my full review of that product there. The reagents DO need to be replaced at regular intervals, as documented on the LaMotte website on a page called "LaMotte Reagents Shelf Life" They explain the date codes on the bottle on that page as well. I know from experience that at least the chlorine tests and the calcium hardness tests will give inaccurate results if you go much past the stated shelf life. This kit also includes new test tubes, which is also good thing, since even if you clean them as you should after each use, they tend to get slightly discolored and cloudy over time which I'm guessing could effect the accuracy of your result. Even though some of the reagents are good for 2 years, some are only good for 1 year or 6 months in the case of CH2. Since the cost of the individual reagents I need after a year is almost as much as the whole kit, I order the whole Refill Kit once a year. For a pool, you don't often have to check Calcium Hardness, but if you regularly refill and balance a SPA, you may have to bite the bullet and order a individual CH2 after 6 months., At current price for the total kit of $57 its not cheap, but pool maintenance is not cheap and I consider this an essential part of my maintenance package.

WAKE UP LAMOTTE!!!
The reagents had good expiration dates. The kit comes with narrow test vials that don’t work in my kit. Also the Alkalinity liquid won’t work in my tester. Lamotte should let you know. I would like to buy new vials for my tester but they are not available. Lamotte changed things with a new tester but doesn’t support my 2 year old tester. Overall I like the tester however Lamotte has lost my confidence and will not support them in the future.

Very good shelf life - no more short expiration dates
Very happy as this is first seller I have ordered from where the product has good expiration dates (well into 2027/2028 except CH2 which is typical 6-month shelf life as per my prior discussions with manufacturer techs at Lamont). Packaged well. I’m now back to getting good water chemistry readings and not having to worry about expiring reagents.

good product but overpriced
Works great--only reason not 5 star is it's high price. Eliminates the guesswork of trying to determine the color of strips. My unit is now 5 years old and I just replaced the batteries for the first time.

Expiration Dates are Excellent
Very satisfied with the expiration dates of the chemicals. Received 4/25/26 and the expiration dates were all 2027 or 2028 except CH2 which is always has a short shelf life (max I’ve ever seen is 6 months) and it’s 9/26 or 5 months which is adequate. See photo for exact dates.

Expiration date
Bought this set twice in a few years. Both sets included nearly expired calcium hardness solution.

Covered entire season
This is for the seller. Thank you. Finally received reagents that will last an entire season for the pool. And, will cover the hot tub through first quarter of 2027. Only one expired in 2026. For the supplier: Make smaller bottles. So much goes to waste every season because of the expiration dates.
