What more can you say about a product with 4.5 Stars and 1700+ reviews?
What more can you say about a product with 4.5 Stars and 1700+ reviews? There are some products that just make you giddy; this is one of them. It works flawlessly, anytime, every time. I've owned a ViAir 85P for about 2 years. I purchased it for a car emergency bag. It has saved my butt more times than I can count. I don't drive brand new cars that are two years old; I get my money out of cars and always end up driving cars that are 13+ years old. Likewise, I don't replace my tires every 20,000 miles either. So, my tires often seem to have a slow leak and can run with low pressure over time. I don't often notice this 'till I'm at work or away from the house. The ViAir 85P inflates tires FAST! It is a 12 VDC compressor (with max 15A to 20A draw), or about 240 Watts (~1/3 HP) max. It's not a 220 VAC 8 HP shop compressor, so it won't inflate you tire in 5 seconds. But compared to all the other 12 V compressors, this thing is KING! The more powerful ViAir compressors pull too much current for a cigarette lighter (they must use alligator clips direct to battery). For convenience (i.e. cigarette lighter power), the 85P things cannot be beat! We've all tried the $15 el-cheapo compressors. Those things are actually WORSE than NOTHING at ALL! They give you a false sense of security. The el-cheapo compressors are not only sooo sloooow when inflating a tire (take FOREVER), but they degrade over time (seals go bad, hose rots, etc.). So just when you need them most, on a cold dark road in the middle of no where, they let you down. When your tire goes flat, you foolishly think, "No problem; I've got my awesome $15 compressor I purchased at Harbor Fraud". Then you find out you should have spent a few more bucks and got the ViAir 85P. Couple this little compressor with a $5 tire repair/plug kit, at you are covered for 95 % of all tire problems in an emergency.I paid around $45 for this a couple of years ago and was tickled with it. I just bought a 2nd one for my other car and two additional units for Christmas gifts. On my recommendation, a co-worker and several friends also purchased these compressors and couldn't be happier. Now, you can often find this on Amazon considerably discounted from that price. It also now comes with a great little zipper bag to keep it in! This is a nice quality bag that you'll actually use, not just some afterthought that will disintegrate with a few months. The bag has an interior pouch for small items (tire plugs, etc.). The built-in pressure gauge is a nice touch and seems pretty accurate (agrees with some of my other gauges to within a few psi). The high-quality brass screw-on hose end is one of the best features of the 85P. It works flawlessly and is super easy to use, even for soccer-moms and the non-mechanically inclined. No more crappy "clamp on" plastic hose connectors like cheap 1970's bicycle pumps that just won't seal. The ViAir hose has a nice feel to it and is braided-cloth covered for durability. The 12V power cable is long enough to plug into the cigarette lighter and still reach all four tires, even on relatively large vehicles. ViAir does sell an extension hose if you need it for some reason. The body of the compressor holds an inflation needle for sports balls, etc. This compressor has some heft to it and feels heavy enough to impress you. I don't know that there's a single thing I would change about this compressor. You are buying perfection! These also makes AWESOME gifts for people that are hard to buy for. From college/high-school students, to the business executive, house-wife, pro-mechanic, to Grandpa Jones, anyone would be pleased to receive this as a gift. And they will think of you next time it saves their butt and they don't have to ride home in the cab of a tow truck at night with a 300 lb gorilla they just met. I should also mention this (for those who think, "just put the spare tire on"). Up here in the north, spare tires are often mounted underneath vehicles. This means the retaining mechanism is exposed to salt roads in the winter and inevitably seizes up. I've seen two vehicles now where no amount of prying and praying would get the spare tire loose. With the ViAir 85P and a cheap tire plug kit, you'll be on your way in 5 min (even on a cold winter road) without laying on your back on a snow/ice covered road in -15 F weather, trying to wrestle a spare tire loose. When putting a spare on, you also have the fun of breaking lug nuts loose, etc. Avoid the pain and buy this ViAir 85P compressor!

Great product with great quality.
I always keep a pump in my car for an emergency. I've gone through a couple of cheap pumps. They are worth what I paid, and break after a few years. They are 'good enough' in that they pump but they are slow and overheat quickly. This is a great product. It's metal, well built, and works very well. It feels solid and is relatively quiet for what it is. It is VERY fast and doesn't overheat.Viair makes many pumps but this is a great simple pump to have in your car or garage. It is well worth the cost and I'll probably save money in the long run not having to replace a cheaper pump.I highly reccomend.

Excellent, but not perfect.
Vibrates a bit when operating, doesn’t have a deflation feature, and the flashlight is always on and at the wrong end of the unit. Otherwise it’s excellent for my needs. It’s quiet. The auto off works well and seems accurate. It fills my (admittedly small) 205/55R16 tires at about 1 psi every couple seconds when topping off. It’s compact and lightweight. The cord and hose are more than long enough without being excessively long. The controls are dead simple. It remembers the pressure setting when turned off. And it seems durable, but time will have to tell on that one. The carrying case seems high quality as well.

Handy little lifesaver
I recently picked up Viair 85P and it's turned out to be a little gem for my car. It's pretty simple to use, which I appreciate. Just plug it into the cigarette lighter, attach the twist chuck to your tire, and you're good to go. I was surprised by how fast it inflates tires – definitely beats waiting for roadside assistance or searching for a gas station with a working air pump. It's got a decent length cord too, so reaching the tires isn't a hassle. The compressor isn't too loud, and the gauge on it seems accurate, which is a relief because I'm never quite sure with these things. It feels sturdy, not like it's going to fall apart after a few uses, and it’s small enough to keep in the trunk without taking up much space. I’ve used it on my SUV and my husband's truck, and it worked like a charm for both. It's not perfect though. If you’re doing more than one tire, you might have to give it a break to cool down, as it's not meant for heavy-duty, continuous use. That’s not a huge deal for me, but something to keep in mind if you think you'll need it for more intensive tasks. Overall, I'd say the Viair 85P is a great buy for the average driver. It’s convenient, reliable, and gives you a bit of extra peace of mind when you're out on the road.

Viair is the only inflator I would buy.
I bought this inflator for my niece. I bought 2 for my cars 8 years ago, still works great and is quiet and fills it super fast. Would recommend Viair it's a quality product.

Blew the charging ports' fuse time and again
I was very excited to get this hoping that my tire inflating woes were finally coming to an end. Things started off encouragingly when it took a little more than 3 minutes to inflate the first tire from 18PSI to 36PSI. But soon thereafter it the fuse. The next day I replaced the fuse and tried again, it longer to inflate and the fuse blew up sooner than before. The trend continued for a third time and I'd had enough. This pump would be better off with crocodile clamps so that it could directly draw power from the battery. It doesn't seem to share a durable relationship with power outlets of all cars. Have requested a return from Amazon.

Very good Product.
I am writing this review after 6 years of use. It’s an excellent product. Looks very aesthetic and also performs well. After six years of use the pushback pin on the power plug became loose and lost. Difficult to get a spare in market. No contact available for customer service. Have asked for support in the FAQ. Hopefully I will get the support.

Works great on Tesla Model 3
The media could not be loaded. I was looking for a 12V air compressor for my 2020 Tesla Model 3 after experiencing a flat and having to wait 2 hours for roadside assistance to show up (Tesla's, like many new cars today, do not have a spare tire). I wanted something that wasn’t going to fail when I need it. Viair was on top of my short list because of its reputation for making quality products and the number of positive reviews. I was, however, somewhat concerned about reviews saying that the compressor will blow fuses. The Tesla Model 3 has a 12V accessory port rated at 12A continuous and 16A maximum so the Viair 84P should theoretically work since it is spec’d as requiring 15A maximum at 40 psi. The recommended tire psi for the Model 3 with stock 235/45R18 tires is 42psi so the max amp draw should be 15A. I was hopeful. The 84P is well built, doesn’t look or feel cheap and works as expected without blowing the electronic fuse on the Tesla.Pros:1. Quick to fill. It took 18 seconds to pump a tire up from 38 psi to 42 psi.2. The press on chuck works. It is somewhat hard to press the lever but it never felt like it was going to break off. Once locked down it is very secure.3. The unit doesn’t dance around the floor when running.4. The needle on gauge doesn’t bounce around when the compressor is on like some reviews state. The pressure gauge is relatively accurate – showing about 2 psi over actual. Not a big deal.5. Not too noisy for a portable air compressor. It’s not ultra quiet, but also not deafening like some 12V compressors.Cons:1. The included bag fits the air compressor perfectly but it is a little frustrating to coil the electrical cable and air hose nicely into the bag.Overall, the Viair 84P works for the Tesla Model 3 and is great value for a quality unit at half the price of the Tesla 12V air compressor, and is not much more than budget 12V air compressors. I don’t know if it will blow the fuse in other cars with 15A fuses on their accessory port/cigarette lighter. However, since most passenger car tires require about 30psi and the 84P is rated as requiring a maximum of 14A at 30psi, it likely will be okay.
