These trays are poorly designed. When you add water they splash.

The top tray is wobbly, I ended up cutting a hole in the middle of top tray to accommodate the dimple in the base. Also the base is not very deep. Was not worth the cost due to the low quality. Compared to the similar priced better quality versions.

its a great way to not overwater your plants..

These self watering dishes work well if using grow bags. My grow bags always dried out so quickly and this extra support really helps. It was easy to set these up and place the bags on top. The soil and bag pull up the water very well. I wish the dish held more water for when I go out of town for a week. And, if you live in a mosquito area you need to empty any remaining water at least every two days to prevent mosquitoes from hatching in them. It would be nice if the screen material was small enough to prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs in them.

I ordered these for my husband to use in his grow room/tents. The sizing seems fitting, matches the photos, do what they say they will. He isn't using the self wagering part, he wanted these to help catch any extra water and to help prevent it from leaking into the floor. They work exactly as he hoped they do and doesn't have anything adverse to say about these at all whatsoever. He'd recommend and reorder them again in need be.

I had transplanted this plant to the grow bag because it was always sickly in a decorative ceramic pot. It was doing better, but I had still had difficulty keeping the plant properly watered. I kept bouncing back and forth between too wet or too dry which wasn't helpful to the plant. Now that I have had this self watering tray under the bag, the plant has perked up and appears very healthy. At first I filled they tray almost to the brim with water. By the next day, it seemed half had been sucked up. I added more water, tpping it off. Again, the next day, much of the water in the tray was gone. I felt the top of the soil and it was spongy wet. I thought, it was taking up too much water. If I watered it that much, it wouldn't survive. I stopped adding more water to tge tray. It's been several more days now. The water level in the tray seems to have stopped decreasing and remained steady during that time and still. The soil is still wet, but the plant is doing well. It is better and happy. The tray itself isn't very pretty, but it's effective. I don't have outdoor plants currently to use these, but I could see them working very well during these hot dry summer days.
