Zillich Tarot In A Tin

There is something very compelling about the Zillich Tarot. I’m accustomed to reading cards based in RWS, so I’m having to brush up on my knowledge of the Thoth deck. The Zillich seems to follow the Thoth relatively faithfully, but I feel incredibly drawn to the artwork in Zillich more than I ever felt with Thoth, which I struggled to like because I felt that I needed to—Thoth is a major and popular deck, after all. Christine Zillich’s watercolors are beautiful and unique—delicate, yet vivid and expressive. It’s subtle yet direct at the same time, if that makes sense. Marvelous use of color. It’s a deck that’s delightful to visit with. Another difference from Thoth is that the pips have pictures on them, similar to RWS decks. Zillich’s cards are borderless (love!) except for a white strip at the bottom that names the card and includes the Thoth keywords. The majors are numbered and include the corresponding Hebrew letter. The backs of the cards are a swirl of blue. The deck comes in a tin, which makes storage easy. This deck is also small enough so you can take it on your travels. Obviously, I highly recommend.

When this deck arrived, I was so impressed to go through it card by card and gaze over each image, exploring the details. It is truly a unique and original vision. The water colors are gorgeous and dreamlike, the colors are ebullient and flowing between soft pastels and vibrant, bolder jewel tones in each card like an artfully composed bouquet of exotic flowers framed against a sunset. The cards look splendid together in a spread, and almost seem to blend together along the edges to compose a greater story. Each card is recognizable as its archetype, but not derivative of any other artist or style. A point I truly appreciated, as so many decks simply rehash or feel like pastiches of the classic images. But the art in each of these cards felt like it had a new take, a different perspective, revealing hidden truths from novel vantages. The overall effect is so pleasing, I think these would make good introductory decks for beginners, or certainly a very lovely present for any tarot enthusiast. And at this price point, I am going to order a few more to stock up. I think I just discovered an awesome go-to gift (or stocking stuffer) for birthdays and holidays.

Lucky me! My copy of the Zillich Tarot arrived today and I couldn't be more happy with it! Just an FYI; there is a typo. Both The Sun and The Universe are numbered XIX. This doesn't bother me one bit; the titles are on the cards and I don't see it as a problem. In fact, I think it's pretty cool because sometime in the future, US Games will probably correct the mistake and I will have the 1st edition! Another interesting point is that Justice is titled Adjustment, and Judgement is titled, Justice. The images on the cards make them easy to read, even with the new titles.

This deck is truly lovely with it's soft watercolor images, and the gorgeous tin that the cards are encased in. The image on the tin is that of the Princess of Cups. The energy of the cards is quite pleasant and positive, and the art on the backside of each of them is so calming and beautiful. Really a nice addition to any collection. The downside for me is that the little white book is just printed on thin, flimsy, paper, and will absolutely not hold up long term use. I wish it had been bound with a more sturdy paper weight and also a cardstock book cover. It is also only 59 pages, including the intro and the about the artist and about the author pages, so there really is very little info contained within. Additionally, some of the info is not very clear or useful. All in all I think the deck is better suited to more intuitive readers, and while a beginner could use it, they may desire another deck with a book that offers more details on general card meanings to help familiarize themselves to the system and commonly used symbols. All in all I would say it's a purchase I am glad I made, and would even opt to buy this deck as a gift for a tarot interested friend, because it presents so beautifully and is so conveniently sized and safely encased, that it can be taken along in a purse or backpack, and used anywhere.

This tarot deck in a tin is a wonderful collectors item. It is thoth inspired and the soft water colors appear to be centered around the chakra colors. I do consider it to be a 'light' deck,some cards may be too soft or washed out to get a deep in depth message,however, despite that minor aspect,I find the cards highly accurate with my questions. So I am very impressed that as a 'light' gentle deck offers a great deal of potential an accuracy. It is a small deck, but I find the tin can slightly larger than the Smith-Waite ( by small increments). I think its a great item to carry around anywhere, in your purse or bag pack. Most importantly,the art work it simply breath taking, it is a beautiful piece of art to own and I am happy to have it a part of my collection.

Lovely, playing card quality deck with etheteal Asian-inspired watercolour art, by Christine Zillich. Pentacles are disks. Follows the Thoth. LWB comes with a clear, concise, generalised, yet informative introduction of tarot, by Johan Von Kirschner. No deck-specific spreads provided, but that takes nothing away from the deck itself. Overall, the deck has a calming, introspective quality about it. Easy to carry, and travels well in tin container.

Love this deck…absolutely gorgeous and unique artwork with an obvious high and clean energy. I love the pocket size of these cards.

This is really an extraordinary deck. Just amazing artwork rich with symbolism. Shuffles like a dream and previous printing error is corrected. It's not for beginners though and I get the feeling that intuitive readers can get a lot out of it.
