As an avid headphone collector AND gamer, it was probably inevitable that I pre-ordered the Audeze Maxwell's as soon as they were available. I will often pick up an aftermarket pair of replacement or backup pads if it is for headphones that I will be listening or gaming with for extended periods of time, but if I recall correctly, there weren't really any options out when the Maxwell's first hit the market (I was one of the first retail customers to receive my pair). Fortunately, the factory pads have really held up well, but when I saw these replacements from Dekoni, I ordered them immediately for review. When they arrived, I put the Maxwell's on my head for 20 minutes so that I could do a direct swap and comparison. After waiting, the factory pads snapped right off and the Dekoni's snapped on easily. My initial impressions were that they were surprisingly closer to the factory pads than I was expecting. Perhaps that is because aftermarket pads are sometimes thicker to an exaggerated level. Not here, though I did notice that the earcup was slightly deeper as I did not feel the tip of my ear touching the Maxwell's driver mesh protector. You can see from the pics that this is the case (Audeze pads are the top, Dekoni bottom). The protein leather material was certainly cool to the touch on my ear, but not any cooler than the factory pads were 20 minutes earlier. But they are just as comfortable to wear - perhaps more after a few days or more of break-in. As far as musical functionality is concerned, this is just an initial impression and review, but I did listen to two EDM tracks with both pairs of pads back to back (albeit with some background noise and while slightly distracted). Sound isolation was similar, and there was no major or screaming difference sonicly with pad change. I realize that scientifically, there will always be some differences with reflection when you change a pad shape, I did not hear any on this quick and casual test. I was home alone, so I did not check for sound bleed, but I would guess they would also be similar. I did note that after another 20 minutes, the comfort of the pads felt a bit better and softer than my initial 20 minutes. That may be because of the materials, or it may be due to the wearing of 2+ year old factory pads. Either way, it is a plus for the Dekoni's. Overall, I would definitely recommend purchasing these if you enjoy the factory pad feel but would like a replacement pad to be slightly softer and slightly deeper cups. I'm not sure I would go with the protein leather version if you wanted a much different feel or were looking for a big "upgrade." But at the current price of $24.99, I wouldn't hesitate to pick these up as a replacement. 5 stars!

I was a loyal customer of the other "Wicked" brand but found these on sale and since I like green thought I would give these a try and I am glad I did. Unlike the other brand these didn't start to ooze after two to three months of use. The rival brand would start to ooze glue or gel at the seams and these have not. Additionally the quality of the material and craftsmanship are evident right out of the box. I wear these for 8 hours a day during the week and 24 to 48 hours straight on the weekend frequently falling asleep with them on as they are so comfortable. When I buy my next pair it won't be because I need to replace them like the cheaper other brand but because I want a different color. Love these!
