Retractable Garden Hose Reel 1/2"155FT Auto Rewind

I am changing my rating to 5 stars for this company’s outstanding customer support! They are honoring their 2-year warranty and replacing the assembly! ————- We initially liked the retractable hose. It is long and retracts easily. However, in less than a year, the hose is failing. It is not durable. It blisters and bulges and prevents water from flowing. I have left a voice message because no one answers the phone number listed on their website, but doubt my call will be returned. The photos show the bulges, but when under pressure, they are much larger — about an inch and a half wide.

The 155-foot hose is the perfect length for my large backyard. It reaches everywhere without dragging across the lawn or getting tangled. The automatic rewind is strong and controlled – no wild whipping or kinking. The included 5 ft leader hose makes connecting to the faucet super easy. I mounted it on the side of my house and it looks neat and organized. The build quality is excellent with a solid metal frame that feels like it will last for years. I’ve had this Giraffe Tools Retractable Garden Hose Reel mounted on my porch for just under a year now and I’m overall very happy with it. Mounting was super easy I attached it to a wooden porch support post and the included hardware worked perfectly. Took maybe 15 minutes total with a drill and level — no issues at all. The swivel feature is excellent. The whole reel turns smoothly so the hose doesn’t get twisted or kinked no matter which direction I’m watering. That’s a big convenience I didn’t realize I needed until I had it. The retraction mechanism works really well too. The hose pulls out smoothly and retracts neatly without any tangling or fighting me. It’s satisfying to use. The 100ft hose length is more than enough for my yard and garden beds. I can easily reach every corner of my property without dragging around a heavy hose. The only real downside is the spray gun that comes with it. It feels cheaper than the rest of the reel and unfortunately cracked after one season of regular use. I just replaced it with a better one and the reel itself continues to work great. Overall this is a nicely built hose reel — sturdy, well-designed, and reliable. I’d still recommend it, especially if you plan to upgrade the nozzle anyway. Definitely a 4-star product for me.

This was the second one I purchased. I bought this for a second water hose in our backyard a year ago. From the beginning it seemed a little different from the first one, took a little more work to get it to lock into place, but functioned fine otherwise. Three weeks ago it completely stopped retracting the hose. It doesn’t work at all now. I’ve called and left two messages with the company and have not heard back. We really like the item but if it doesn’t last any longer than this- and support isn’t available- I would not recommend it. Follow Up: after doing a little more research this company has an email account that has an AI response. If you can’t work through the issue with AI, it creates a customer ticket. They responded within hours. Don’t call them- send an email if you have issues. I’ve changed my review to a 5 star because we love the system and now the customer service has matched the quality of the giraffe.

We have a big yard so I bought two of these and still have one after two years of ownership and average use. This year, one failed internally and was spraying water inside the housing. Not wanted to deal with a warranty headache, I decided to take it apart and see if it was fixable. Yeah, not so much. Like most reels, the hose attaches to a swivel fitting and this is where it failed. Instead of using a metal threaded coupling, it is plastic and IIRC, the hose was crimped to it. The plastic coupling had broke where it went into the swivel and there was no way to fix it. It looked like a proprietary part so didn't even waste time searching for something that might work. This coupling also takes a sharp acute angle that resembles a "V", this along with the narrow 1/2" hose over 130ft, your pressure will drop tremendously. When I first got this, I never really noticed it, but after this reel's failure and hooking up my standard 5/8"x50ft garden hose, I can water plants with ease; something that I couldn't do with this reel. Now as far as the extend and retracting action, flawless. I never had an issue extending or retracting the hose. That all worked as advertised. I think Gorilla would do their customers a favor if they made these reels with replaceable hoses or even offer reels with no hoses so customers could add their own. Oh, almost forgot, these are perfect for birds houses. We unfortunately had a nest built in our surviving reel this spring. Sadly, the eggs did not survive as we didn't know about the nest and extended the hose which caused the nest and eggs to get destroyed. There is also no way to clean it out without taking it apart and risking the spring unwinding. That is the key to these reel's mechanics. A little access panel on the bottom that could be removed to allow leaves and debris that accumulates would be a nice addition as well.

I bought the Giraffe retractable hose for my deck a couple of years ago, and it has been a fantastic investment. I use it constantly during the peak summer months for watering my flowers and hosing off the deck. Recently, the unit failed and started pouring water from inside the housing. I was disappointed and hesitant to spend another almost $200 on a replacement. Knowing my original purchase date was May 30, 2024, I realized my two-year warranty had just lapsed by a few weeks. I reached out to Giraffe’s customer service, honestly just hoping they could give me some advice or parts to fix it myself. After a few brief messages back and forth to clarify the issue, they completely surprised me. Even though the warranty had technically expired, they graciously offered to send me a brand-new replacement unit! It is incredibly rare to find a company that stands behind their products like this. If you are on the fence about spending the money on this hose, do it. The product is extremely convenient, and the customer support is world-class. Highly recommend!

This will be my third giraffe… not because they’re a bad product but because I absolutely love them and I keep going larger! I’ve never had an issue with the hose retracting, love, love, love the nozzle and all the options that you get, this thing is as sturdy as sturdy can be… I will mount it and forget it. You cannot do better than these giraffe retractible! These babies are built to last… I have probably sold a dozen of them by people just coming to my house and going oh my God that’s the greatest thing ever! Yup!!!

Nice product and concept. Held up okay for a year. The retraction for the hose has kept going strong, but the plastic piece inside that moves the hose to layer it inside the unit started to strain after about the first month (I don’t know its name, but the thing that makes it go left to right so it rolls back inside evenly). The hose itself is good but not very robust. I understand the hose probably needs to be thin to roll up inside the unit well, but this also leads to the hose being weaker than most. In one year I have had to patch three holes in the hose already. And due to the unit design, you cannot just buy a new hose and swap it all out. Over all okay, just a little disappointed over all based on the price.

Had this unit for about a year. Great quality. Nice to have it auto retract. Nice and durable. Mounted straight to concrete and is locked tight. Included nozzle is of great quality even though it is plastic.

We so love these hose and reels. We have one outside and one in our garage. Absolutely love them. Makes it too easy to put them away.
