The Last Jew
I bought this book as I enjoyed "The Physician" trilogy and although this is one is a stand alone book if you have read any of the trilogy you will certainly enjoy this one. It is mainly set in 13th century Spain and as in The Physician true facts are intermingled with the fiction. When I first bought it I left it in the car to read at "waiting times" - you know what I mean - waiting to go into an appointment - waiting for your friend to arrive - waiting for...... - but the book was so interesting I took inside the house to read for more than 10 minutes at a time! Buy this book if you like historical fiction, if you like historical medicine and if you like a good book!

the last jew
After reading The Physician I was prepared for The LastJew to be somewhat of a let down. Not so. After wading through the first two chapters trying to absorb the characters and their names, hard enough with English names let alone Spanish names, the book blossomed into a spellbinding journey of intrigue and excitement, of which Noah Gordon is truly the master. Having spent much time in Spain it was wonderful to recognise names and places of which I am familiar and follow a young mans journey during the terrifying time of the Spanish Inquisition. Truly a masterpiece. Come on Noah Gordon, print La Bodega in English!

Awaiting arrival
Am looking forward to this book arriving. I normally read factual books 're European and Spanish history rather than fiction. Nevertheless, there's much that can be learnt from well written, insightful, historic fiction.Noseyness meant C15 Spain, not C13!

An amazing book, often narrated in a gripping style
An amazing book, often narrated in a gripping style. It gives a lot of historic information as well as describing parts of Spain. A very good insight into the lives of many different parts of society in medieval Spain

The Last Jew
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. So interesting historically. 500 years ago my family came from Spain and that is why I wanted to read it.

Having recently found out that my surname is Toledano after 74yrs &having visited Toledo last year with my family. It was confirmedby Geneolagy back to 1592 that is where we came from.So the book was a real journey for me apart from being a great read.

Fantastic book
I knew the author already from other readings. It's superficial to say what I like or not!I like everything from this author! For my language exams it's just perfect!

An endearing tale of mentorship and loss
This book starts out a little bit scattered. I almost stopped reading it, but was so glad that I didn't. It soon turns to follow the main character's misfortunes and challenges exclusively, and at that point it becomes hard to put down. Noah Gordon is excellent with words and crafting of wonderful stories that highlight the human spirit.

Malheureusement !
