Great Overall Carving Knife
This is our second carving knife purchase of the same unit. Our friends loved our first one so much, we bought them a new one as a gift. We find this knife incredibly reliable. The unit is constructed well for its intended purpose. While not ergonomically perfect, it is more than sufficient for its purpose unless it takes you hours to carve the meat, or you are purchasing the product for a different purpose (such as foam cutting). We especially like the two blade design, that many may find odd at first. Once you get used to it and use it, you will probably like it. As for the power, unless you are using it to cut down trees, we found the power more than enough- once again, for it's intended purpose. The design of the safety button is a little awkward at first. A few uses, and you will be a pro. This is one knife we will have for a long time.

Fabulous knife, great value!
We initially bought one of these to make serving our holiday meats easier. It worked beautifully on both the ham and turkey. I know we had less waste using an electric knife. Even, smooth slices. DHL has decided on prime rib for Christmas supper and I know this knife will be perfect slicing that expensive cut of beef. We like it so much we just sent one along to our son for their holiday meals. Along with some Christmas china, just perfect for their house warming gifts-they just closed on their new home. This knife was very reasonably priced-don't let that fool you. It slices perfectly!

Black and Decker electric knife
I have owned this electric knife for over a year now and we use it almost daily. Our first knife was a Presto Pride and we had it for many years before it died. We also own the Presto Pride bread slicing guide. When I looked for a replacement, this knife seemed the closest in description to what we originally owned. When we used it for the first time, the knife cut just as well as our old one. What I was surprised about was the weight of the knife in my hand. It is much heavier than our first one. It is also "fatter" around and my hand cannot close around the bottom end of it. Luckily, you don't have to hold the bottom, the knife gets skinny enough right near the power button you press. The Pros: 1. It is still running well after our first year. The weight makes me think that the gears are made of metal and not plastic like some of the other knives. (I cannot verify this as I have not taken my knife apart.) 2. It has a "lock" switch on the power button to keep you from accidentally cutting when you are not ready. Both the switch and the button are easily pushed with one finger. 3. It is easily operated by any adult with regular arm strength. No complaints for how it operates. Cons: 1. It IS heavy! My younger children don't cut the bread because they can't balance the knife with only one hand. 2. The knife blade has an angle in it right where it locks into the handle. I am not sure why the manufacturer decided to put this angle in it, but it makes the length of the knife too short for our bread cutting guide. The blade slips out of the far side of the guide and cuts the bread crooked. Since we still had our first knife blades (Presto), we simply inserted the blades into the Black and Decker handle and "Presto!" (ha ha) the knife works great! It is still sharp and the knife locked smartly into place. It does not jiggle or overheat. It works perfectly every time. We have saved the new knife for when we cut meat or other items. 3. Some might consider this a disadvantage. The power button you press to activate the knife blades is bowed out; it is not flat. Sometimes if my finger is a little moist, the shape makes my finger slip to the bottom of the long button. I got used to it after a while and was no longer afraid that my finger would slip off the button because there is a lip or edge there that catches my finger and stops it from any further slipping. Overall, it has been a very good replacement. Maybe the manufacturer could lengthen the knife so that it would fit all bread cutting guides. Other than that, we really like it! UPDATE: May 1, 2014 The Black and Decker electric knife is still going strong!! We haven't had ANY problems!! I occasionally get frustrated with the curved or bowed-out power button because I would like to be able to press the button in the middle in order to balance the weight of the knife but my finger always slides to the lower end of the button. I guess if the knife weren't so heavy, I would be able to keep my finger where it is logically more comfortable. Other than this small inconvenience, the knife works great! We use it almost daily to cut our homemade bread.

Excellent electric knife
This is a heavy duty excellent electric knife. Easy to use with a safety button to prevent accidentally starting the knife when you don't want to start it cutting. It is quieter than my other electric knives. Easy to use.

not good
I own a 10 year old black & decker electric knife that I really like. When I saw these at such a good price I ordered two. One for me and one for my brother in law for Christmas. I tried to carve our turkey with mine but could nog get knive to stay turned on. You have to push a small, spring loaded, pin that blocks trigger from being pushed in to turn on. You need to almost look at small pin to push it across then before you can start cutting it snapps back and turns off. To get my turkey carved, I had to take a knife and cut the safety pin off. Then the knife works great with no safety pin. I just have to remember to unplug it before trying to remove blades. I will have to update my brother in law about his gift.

Don't buy if you're left-handed or have arthritis in your hands
I debated about giving the number of stars to give this product. It does cut very well. However, it isn't very easy to use. I bought this for my husband to carve the Thanksgiving turkey this year and he was able to use it. We also eat a lot of bread so I thought it might be helpful for that. First the good points: As I said, it slices really well. Additionally, the blades aren't too difficult to install and it cleans up pretty nicely. Now the not-so-good: The only real problem we had was that you must hold in a button on the side while squeezing the "trigger" to make the knife work. I understand that this is probably a good safety precaution. Unfortunately it's so safe that sometimes the user can't hold both and it stops so it doesn't cut your hand (or anything else). This problem was compounded by the fact that the button is on the right side of the knife and my husband is left-handed. It took him awhile, but eventually he got the hang of it. I'm a righty and I tried to use it to slice some bread. I now know why it took him so long to carve the turkey because I never did get it to consistently work right for me. In order to hold both the safety button and trigger my hand had to hold an extremely unnatural position. It was difficult and made my hand cramp. I'm thinking of supergluing the button in place because otherwise it was a pretty good knife.

Cuts through upholstery foam like butter
I bought this for the purpose of cutting upholstery foam and it is fabulous. It is like cutting butter. I had spent, no exaggeration, 45 minutes to carefully cut ONE four-inch cube of foam using a bread knife, a paring knife, and scissors. And it did not come out very evenly at all. I could not imagine doing seven more of them that way (I was making fabric covered foam baby blocks). I ordered this knife on Friday evening and received it on Sunday. In 15 minutes I had opened the box, read the directions, and cut the rest of the blocks. Magic! Very easy to assemble: you simply click the blades into the handle. (If you have not used an electric knife before: the two blades are used at the same time. They go back and forth to cut the material. It's not like you have one blade and an extra. Just thought that might be a helpful clarification.) Locking switch is good for safety. I did not find the handle difficult to hold, as I saw other reviewers comment about a different brand knife, so I think this one is a good choice. The body of the knife did become quite warm during several minutes of being turned on and off every 10 seconds or so, but cooled quickly as soon as it was turned off for a longer period.I don't think that is unusual or any kind of a problem. Cutting a piece of meat, I don't think you would have it on for that long at a time anyway. My only wish is that this one came with a case. It seems wise, and more convenient, to keep the blades out of the handle for storage, but of course you want them together. For the time being I will just use the box it came in, and see if I can find something sturdier. It does have a plastic sheath for the blades so that you don't cut yourself reaching for them. Very very pleased and hope it lasts (if it doesn't I will try to update this review). Plus, it will be nice for the holiday turkey (well cleaned) but I think mainly I will be using it for this craft purpose.

HUGE timesaver for DIY Diaper Wipes and it cuts through paper towels!
This is an enormous game changer for me: I've been making my homemade diaper wipes since my two year old was born (out of Bounty paper towel rolls cut in half, with boiled water, coconut oil, Lavender and Tea Tree essential oils, and all-natural castile soap.) The time it took for me to cut through a paper towel roll from Costco was enormous, not to mention labor-intensive (phew, my triceps got strong). I was worried that an electric knife would not cut through a Bounty paper towel roll, and so I never invested. (Because serrated knives don't work as well as non-serrated). But 2 years later, I decided to give the electric knife a try. Now I was I had been using this all along!! It took me less than 20 seconds to cut through a paper towel roll. The results have never been smoother!! I also make my own bread, and I am never going back to using a bread knife either - using this to cut a loaf I just made makes it look like it could be packaged and sold. The slices are fluffy yet smooth, not torn down the middle like when I use a serrated bread knife. Will I be purchasing this in the future? The answer is a definite YES. As soon as I wear this one out, I'll be ordering another. And getting one for my parents, my inlaws, for Christmas white elephant gifts....you get this picture. Don't debate and just order this. For $14, this is an incredible quality bargain. Can't wait to carve a turkey this year!
