Good cheap book but terrible packaging!
Very cheap but why oh why would you post a heavy hard back book in just a poly bag with no protection from damage? In this particular case the damage is fairly slight but that is pure chance!

Glorious Book!
A beautiful book to look at again and again! Worth every penny and a lovely way to recall heady student days..( and the lectures and practicals 6 days a week...!)

A much appreciated gift!
I bought this as a gift for a friend of mine who graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge. Although I gave it to them some time ago they still eulogise about this book, and, I believe their fascination with it is genuine rather than a display of good manners. It is a beautifully produced volume rich with illustrations and highly detailed text covering all the University Colleges and their fascinating histories. Although produced for the 800th Anniversary of Cambridge University celebrated in 2009, it will be a book to treasure for years to come. An essential book for anyone with a connection to Cambridge University, and, still a worthwhile purchase with plenty of interest even if you are not so fortunate. Recommended.

This book is a compendium of articles to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the University of Cambridge. Many of the articles are by heads of Cambridge Colleges and Cambridge professors. It is copiously illustrated. It covers a wide range of academic subjects. I particularly like mathematician/theologian Professor John Polkinghorne's article on Science and Religion that is part of the section on Spiritual Life. Head of Trinity College and Astronomer Royal, Professor Martin Rees, looks at the future of science. There's a historical and geographical narrative woven between subjects on student life. Nostalgic pictures of familiar places, artefacts and exhibits will bring back memories to alumni. Labs old and new are illustrated. For the prospective student, the writing gives some idea of the quality of the Cambridge academic experience. It even includes a picture of gown fitting at Clothiers store. Biographical snippets of Cantabrigians over the ages bring to life a rich research history. The contribution of Cambridge to drama - from Pythonesque Footlights revues to artistic directors of the National Theater - are presented. Administration, sports, talent and temerity are just some of the many topics covered. Peter Pagnamenta has presented us with a book that will appeal particularly with those who have lived in Cambridge, but it would make a great mememento for tourists, and a delightful business gift for those who appreciate fine academic institutions.
